If you have been searching for an “easy” young medium-sized dog, then Flaco is your boy! Flaco Lobo (Skinny Wolf) is so very sweet and mellow and seems content just to be alive! He is almost fully recovered from pneumonia, and he now has spurts of puppy energy chasing a tennis ball (or sneaking a shoe outside to cuddle!) This dog is so adorable with his cute ears and soulful brown eyes – with black eyeliner and white eyelashes! He will steal your heart, for sure!
Flaco has a slight limp when he first gets up, but it’s not noticeable once he starts playing. It’s from a twitch that he has in his right front leg, which turns out to be a neuro symptom of distemper. Yes, he’s been diagnosed with distemper, but since he has responded well to his pneumonia treatment and has developed a great appetite, it’s hopeful that his neuro symptom (the twitch) will remain static or get better as opposed to getting worse as can happen quickly with distemper. At this point we just don’t know which way it will go. But either way, Flaco is a fabulous pup with such a great disposition that you are going to want him around for as long as possible!
Flaco will likely never be a runner’s dog, but perhaps the right dog for a mellow human who likes walks instead? In his current foster home, Flaco jumps easily up the 13” to the yard to do his business (he is housetrained) but so far he is afraid to attempt stairs. We can work on that. Flaco has great instincts as a watch dog – he barks at the back gate when people pass loudly or linger, but stops barking when asked. He is curious about the cat but is not aggressive, just interested and excited.
Flaco knows “sit” and “off” best, and is working on “stay” and “come”. He doesn’t need to work on “down” because that is his favorite thing to do: flop down and roll over for a belly rub! He often sleeps that way… yes, ADORABLE!
