josie

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Josie is an adorable 2 year old black lab mix with a white stripe from her chin down her belly. Josie can be high energy/active, however with proper exercise she also happily calms down and will relax and snuggle at home with you. She loves running on the beach, chasing balls at the park, or just playing with toys at home.
When I adopted her over a year ago from Rocket Dog, she was a skittish, skinny puppy right off the street, who was in clear need of proper nutrition and training. She was just learning to walk on a leash and was not housebroken or crate trained. Josie has come such a long way! She quickly bonded with me and my roommates (giving as many kisses as you can tolerate!). Jo is now completely crate trained and housebroken, and weighs a healthy 50 lbs with a beautiful, shiny black coat. She is in great health and is up to date on all shots and heartworm medication.
Josie needs an owner/family who is willing and able to work with her on obedience training and socialization with other dogs and new people. She is very friendly, but can get quite excited or a little uncertain when greeting strangers depending on the situation. Unfortunately because of my work schedule I have not been able to take the time to make progress with her on this next step in her training. Josie picks up training quickly (she knows sit, down, shake and high-five) and will continue to progress with structured training. She gets along very well with all the dogs in her daily walk and play group (ranging from puppies to Great Danes), but can get excited, and overly eager when first meeting other dogs.
Living with another dog might be a great help in terms of getting Josie the exercise she needs by romping and playing together. Josie would do best in an active home, we think she would absolutely love a backyard where she could run and play!
Josie has been a wonderful pet and I will miss her, but I know she will be much happier with some room to roam and a chance to be with someone who has time to give her all the love and attention that she deserves!
