rex

Rex is a cute, funny schnauzer boy about 3 years old who was rescued (in poor physical condition, starving) from the streets of San Jose. His tail was docked, but not his ears, and one will always stand while the other will never. He is a typical dark salt & pepper schnauzer in all other respects: engaging, witty, growly-playful, good with other dogs and sweetly social with all people.
He weighs about 14 pounds and will probably gain two or three pounds as he continues to recover from his abandonment. Otherwise he is in good health. Rex loves to play with other dogs, walks well on a lead, and is learning housetraining in his current setting. He was likely walked on a lead to do his business before becoming homeless, but he is also learning good habits in his current foster home where he goes outside in a yard. He uses a dog-door well.
Rex has a typical pet schnauzer coat that will continue to need to be groomed. In his before-street life, this was something he was used to, as he stands and cooperates completely with grooming tools and clippers. He will have delightful fluffy leggings on all legs once his hair regrows (he was matted when he was rescued, so had to have his hair clippered down). And, after adoption, he can continue to return to his foster mom for grooming (for free).
Rex would do well in a home with teenagers, with adult(s), as an only-dog or play-pal dog. He gets along well with cats. He loves both men and women, and especially loves other terriers! In other words, here is the poster dog for rescue – an adorable little guy just looking for forever-love.
