munchkin

Who is the Mayor of Munchkinville?  Munchkin is, of course!  He’s the small dog who’s “all dog” - a little guy - 10 pounds - with sweetness and playfulness in equal measures.  Munchkin is probably just over a year old, a terrier-chihuahua mix, mostly terrier but chi-small.  He loves other dogs up to about 30 pounds, and plays very well with them. He is white with cute tan markings on his face and shoulders and tail.  He also loves ALL people. Munchkin came into rescue when his owner had a stroke and could no longer care for him.

He spent only a very few days at a high-kill shelter (where owner-turnovers generally do not survive). Munchkin loves to play with hands and fingers, and was obviously loved and treated well in his home of origin. He learns quickly, and tries hard to please his human companions. He loves to go for walks. He is housetrained in his current setting, where he is taken outside regularly to do his business (even in the rain-which the little guy despises!) Because he is a young dog, Munchkin needs continued guidance and understanding about when play gets too rough. His first home probably “rough-housed” with him, but his foster home encourages more toy play and less chew-play, and he is fine with that.

He is not an especially brave little guy, but he does have some foolish idea that larger dogs should listen to his opinions, so he is not recommended as a companion to a very large playful dog who might misunderstand. Munchkin would be great with active children 10 years old or older, and would be a great second dog for someone whose small to mid-sized pooch wants a wonderful play-pal. You can see a picture of him with Bambi (6 lbs) who believes Munchkin is the best thing since sliced bread (as do Jasper and Rex, two other foster dogs, and all other small dogs who meet him!) He is probably fine with cats, as he does not “alert” to them when they are nearby in his foster home. If you'd like to talk about fostering or adopting Munchkin, please send an inquiry to catonroof@aol.com or call 415-225-2624 to speak to his Rocket Dog Rescue foster mom. If you have not already filled out an adoption questionnaire from the Rocket Dog Rescue site at http://www.rocketdogrescue.org, please read it for the information you will be asked to share during the foster or adoption process. Munchkin says, "I hereby dub you FABULOUS for considering rescue!
