Leave No Dog Behind. Make a difference in a dog's live. Adopt. Foster. Give. Rock on.

wylie

Wylie needs a new place to live due to a new baby in the house. This is what his current owners say about him:

Wylie is nothing if not cute.  He's a beautiful dog who's cup
runneth over with a bubbly and playful personality.  He stands about knee
height and weighs approximately 45lbs.  He is neutered and has all his
shots.  We also had him micro-chipped when we adopted him.

Wylie came to us as "Wylie" but my wife and I held very serious
conversations about re-naming him Klinger.  He is an intensely loyal
companion who, seemingly, can never get enough of your affection.  He will
follow you from room to room and sit quietly and patiently outside the door
if you close it behind you.

Indoors he is appropriately playful and, as mentioned, decidedly attached.
He loves his toys; mainly rubber, chewy things as he has a great talent for
dissecting the more vulnerable squeaky, stuffed toy ducks (he loves squeaky
toys!).  He is house-broken but did have a couple of accidents when we first
got him and more should probably be anticipated in his new home.  Since he
has come to be "our" dog, he's spent several nights away from us and has
proven to be a great guest.  He is generally very quiet but he will bark at
the mail-man or the doorbell.  I don't think he's suitable for real security
work however as the offender is always greeted with a wagging tail and
usually a hug.  He catches cat naps throughout the day but is up and on his
feet, ready to go out the front door with us at the first signs of motion.

Outside, Wylie is the dream dog!  He is friendly with EVERYONE;  dogs,
people, children. Importantly, he's also a lot more independent outside.
Any new owner would probably want to wait a fair amount of time (until an
attachment is unmistakable) before working on off-leash recall. His great
joy in life is going to Crissy field for some quality off-leash time.  He
has a lot of friends there with whom he wrestles and runs up and down the
beach and the vast grassy areas.  He fancies himself a bit of a water dog
but he never goes in deeper than his chest... I think he secretly wishes he
was a lab.  He loves to play fetch with the tennis ball and it is AWESOME to
watch him run all out after one....he's a rocket.

We spent a lot of time working with Wylie when we got him.  We are now able
to walk him without a leash;  he has great recall, heels on command and will
not cross the street unless he is right next to one of us.  He also knows
"sit", "lie down", "stay", "come", "off", "leave it"....and a few others.

When I think about what makes the most sense for Wylie, I picture him with a
family (or individual) that spends a fair amount of time outdoors or has
outdoor space, another dog and older children. He would probably be too much for an older person as he definitely needs his
exercise....specifically, he needs to get outside for a significant chunk of
time everyday. He would probably also be best associated with a "dog
person";  someone  that is an experienced owner and is an active manager of
his pets....he needs a firm hand...someone to be an alpha presence.
