Poor Johnny Angel! He was left in the night drop box at the shelter by his family of four years…he had been adopted as a pup from Rocket dog rescue in 2009. Now he is back with us and ready to begin a new chapter in his life! Johnny is about 16 lbs, a smooth coated doxie mix, very sociable. He seems to do well with dogs of all shapes and sizes, but we have not seen him with cats.

Introducing Neecie, a lovely golden girl about 10 mos old. She was saved by Rocket Dog rescue before she was put down for lack of space at the shelter. We are guessing her mix as “lab” and “sight-hound”….Neecie is a bit shy at first but warms up once she is comfortable with you. She is good with cats (per shelter volunteer)…we have a picture of her meeting a cat and she seems friendly, not aggressive at all. Neecie is about 35 lbs, but is tall and lithe. She will likely put on more weight but she is not going to get any taller….

Meet Sam! He’s an ADORABLE 2-3 year old purebred Bloodhound.. Sam is a lovely boy who is emotional, kind and sweet. He is good with other dogs and people, and really just wants to be with you .. He would do well with a home who will take him on long walks and do basic training with him .. We think he was a working dog so never really got to be indoors much. Sam is ready to be your family dog and promises to give you lots of love! He is nuetered, has shots and chipped. If you love hounds, you will LOVE this boy…Hes 95lbs of love.

Meet Ace, a darling Formosa Mountain Dog puppy. He is 8 months old and weighs 35lbs. He’s got an adorable face with big & long ears! He offers a loving personality along with the curiosity & excitement of a puppy. He’s very well-mannered and intelligent. He has come a long way already – from a shy pup (he came here from Taiwan!) to a playful lively pup. He loves to go out on walks, likes car rides and Dog Park visits. He is fast at learning his basic commands. He’s create trained and house trained too.

He does not destroy anything at his foster home (never chews on anything other than chew toys). He loves his bones. Most of his day is spent playing with his house companion, a 3yr old shepherd mix. At the dog park, he loves to play and run around with other dogs. He is very social with humans too, even though he’ll seem shy at first. He would do well in a house w/o cats. Households with dog(s) would be a plus but not absolutely necessary. Continued puppy training & dog park visits is recommended to help him graduate into a fine gentleman.

He’s nuetered, up to date on shots & chipped.

Pearl

Welcome Beautiful Pearl to Rocket Dog! Pearl came to us from the city shelter, as she was getting stressed out in a kennel environment. This lovely lady is 1.5 years old and is full of love and puppy energy. Pearl came into the city shelter emaciated and in terrible shape. With lots of TLC, she has blossomed into this lovely girl and her health is good now.

Pearl loves playing with her dogs friends. She does get very excitable so her play should always be monitored. Her favorite thing is carrying around a toy in her mouth – and getting other dogs to play with her. Pearl would be a great running partner and loves exercise. She also calms down & enjoys downtime with her people! She’s a true beauty and a great package of love, and loyal. Pearl should continue with basic training in her new home. She would be fine living with a male dog. She has been spayed, has all shots & microchipped.

Lucy & Ruby

Meet Lucy & Ruby! Lucy is the one with the green collar. She is the more confident one of the two. She loves to wrestle and plays a little ruff, but is still very sweet and loves her people too. She does get along with other dogs but can play rough so better with larger dogs.

Ruby with the orange collar is slightly smaller and more timid than Lucy. She is very sweet and plays gently with the smaller dogs in the foster home but is not as confident playing with the larger dogs. Loves to cuddle and relax in your lap. She’s just a doll.

Lucy & Ruby are 4 months old and were rescued 2 weeks ago from Sacramento shelter when they ran out of time due to overcrowding at the shelter.Both dogs were very shy and scared at first but have really started to open up in their foster home. They will make an amazing addition in their new home.

They are fostered with 3 other dogs ranging from 50lbs to 10lbs. They get along fine with all of the dogs in the house, no problems so far. They are also in a house with 2 kids ages 5 and 7 and have been fine with the kids.

I think they would both make great family dogs. They love to snuggle up to you and lay by your side.We recommend basic puppy training classes for new owners. They need help building more confident and continued socialization.

THEY SHOULD BE ADOPTED SEPARATELY. They can go to a home with other dogs.

Harry

This is Harry, a Labradoodle from Taiwan. He’s only been in country something like one month, and is doing well with the transition. He’s housebroken, neutered, up to date on shots. Some special handling required, he’s a sensitive boy with some special needs, but nothing extreme. We recommend a home with kids over 16. His ideal canine companion for a home would be a larger alpha dog. (Rightly so, Harry is not fond of little dogs that nip at him)

Harry LOVES to fetch, retrieve and is very good at it. He returns the ball and is ready to go again. He is good with other dogs, although not interested in playing. He just got a fresh haircut to take away the terrible matting he had when he arrived, but it is growing out and soon he will look poodle-like again. Oh yea, and the “pompadour” that appears to be mounted on his head…it’s his right ear…This cute guy has one erect ear and one floppy ear ! He weighs about 40 pounds now and can stand to gain 5 to 8 more pounds.

Blue

Blue is a 3 year old beautiful merle cattle dog mix. She’s about 40lbs. She was adopted last April from the North Texas Humane Society. She was living in Dallas and had a large home with empty blocks where she could run. Blue has not adjusted well to living in a small apartment in the city, so she is looking for a new forever home.

Blue is a very sweet and loving girl. She loves getting her belly rubbed. Blue loves running on the beach and chasing birds. She likes to have one part of her body touching you when she is tired and is sleeping. Blue has some pretty cool moves when she is playing chase or wrestling. Her best is the 360 degree turn. She generally likes the males better than the female. She burps like a sailor after eating. She is very obedient and walks well on the leash. She spends a lot of time in daycare so she is well socialized with other dogs and loves to play.

We think Blue will be best suited to a house that has space to run and a male dog companion. She loves to run and play and is going to make someone very, very happy.

Meet PI ! He’s a fabulous, young, active & loving pitty boy who is around 2 years old. Oh this sweet boy was PI was named after “The life of PI”. He had a very, very horrible past and was neglected and almost starved to death. PI has now made a full recovery, and is in great health. He is strong, active & happy to be alive. When he first came to us, he could barley move- now he enjoys being healthy and happy and loves running around. PI is good with other dogs (although other dogs often find him a bit odd with his funny play skills) he is fostered with big and small dogs. He would do best in an active home. He does need continued training so he can learn to be a model boy. PI also gets sad being left alone, so would do best in a home where he was not alone all the time!

Homer

Homer is a “cartoon dog”..that is, he looks and acts like a silly dog from your favorite cartoon….his outrageously pointy nose and his incorrigible curiosity further supports the foster mom’s initial theory that Homer is fun-loving, adventure-seeking, and best friend material!

Homer is about 1.5 yrs old, a mix between a manchester terrier and dachshund (?) and weighs about 12 lbs. He is fully vaccinated and neutered. He does get along with other dogs and he loves people. He initially had some food guarding issues but we are working on that. Homer is learning that food is no longer scarce. He is crate trained and house trained and has not had any accidents in the house.

Meet Emma! She’s a 3-4 year old purebred Dalmatian who is coming to Rocket Dog! This lovely gal is gentle, loyal and affectionate. She has won over the hearts of many shelter staff already. The mighty Quinn is a lovely 1-2 year old shepherd that will add sweetness and joy to your world. Quinn likes other dogs, is naturally a well mannered dog (though she is a young adult so basic obedience training would be good ) She is about 50lbs, on the smaller side for a shepherd. Quinn is a beautiful amazing great girl – she is smart, affectionate and willing to please. She is devoted, loyal & outgoing.. She is interested in small dogs, so would be best with a dog her size. Welcome this little family to Rocket Dog! *Pictured in the RIGHT corner is the MOMMA dog of these adorable pups. ..

They all arrived together this week from a high kill shelter. We think maybe the adorable black poodle mix may be an orphan who now thinks this cute terrier is his momma (we think that since he’s almost as big as momma) while the other pups are only 2lbs, and momma dog is small.

They are now 8 weeks old, and ready for their forever homes!♥ Momma dog is around one year old. They will be fixed, up to date on shots, and chipped.

Meet Roodi! She’s a 12 week old cattle dog/pointer mix puppy who came to us from a high kill shelter on her last day with her litter mates. She is a lovely, cuddly and very smart girl. She can be shy at first but warms right up once she knows you. Continued socialization will be great for her. She is so affectionate and wants to be with her people. She’s great with other dogs, and also cats. She’s a self composed and thoughtful little pup. She is working on her housebreaking – and is making progress.

Paper boy

Paper boy is an adorable purebred toy fox terrier puppy! We think he’s around 4-5 months old. He’s a lucky boy that he ended up with RD and never had to experience a shelter. He does have a docked tail (which is typical for the breed.)

Well, what can we say about this adorable little man. He’s a total lover and joy to have around. He is cute as a button – and has a personality to match. He loves other dogs, and would love a doggie friend in his new home. He’s super smart, alert and spunky too. Paper boy got his name because he does like to eat paper, so he will of course need training – and he’s a still a baby and learning the ropes. He is doing wonderful in foster care, and is the most wonderful little guy.

Red

Meet Red! He’s a 2 year old male pitty who came to us from the Sacramento shelter, after his owner was hospitalized. He weights 56lbs.

Red is an all-around great boy! He passed the shelter’s temperament test, meaning he was social with the testers, tolerant of handling, and did not guard food or treats on the test that with a bowl of wet food, if was difficult to push his head away,but possible). When I went to get him today from his kennel, he was waiting for me at the door with a happy smile and a wagging tail. He was easy to leash, and off we went to play outside!

The shelter volunteers love him, and Red greets everyone by sitting in her lap. Red LOVES cuddles and rolled onto his back with her and snuggled under her arm with a the biggest grin on his face. Red would definitely like to be a lap dog! Red also visited with us in our office, where he flopped onto his back into my lap like a loosey goosey ragdoll. Angela found she could hug him, pull on his legs and spin him around on his back (!) and put an antler headband on him – and sweet Red took it all in stride, happy for the attention!

Big red is a wonderful boy, and a goof ball who is going to make someone very happy! He will do well in an active home!

Hippo

Meet Hippo! He’s a stocky, 50 lb, purebred 2 year old English Bulldog with a funny lookin’ under bite who came to us from Redwood City when his owners could no longer keep him.

He’s fully housebroken, loves car rides, & loves meeting people. He’s easily entertained with a house broom and likes to play/chase it around, although is respectful of it when you actually want to get some house work done.

He likes to snooze in sunny spots, relaxes in his crate, loves attention, and will never turn down a treat! Hippo is a silly yet bossy boy, as many bully breeds can be. He needs some work around his leash manners as he’s a puller (which works as a skateboard buddy but not for your daily walk) and needs to be the only dog in the house as he’s people friendly but does not get along with other animals. Hippo has some silly antics trying to get your attention by grumbling so don’t be fooled and he gets the zoomies quite often which is always a spectacle.

Hippo is not a first time dog owner dog. He will need a strong leader that has previous breed experience, in an adult only household. His wiggles of excitement and rambunctiousness can easily knock over a small child. He should be the only dog in his home

Baby Girl is a scrumptious puppy delight! She’s a 3 month old pitty mix who came into then city shelter after they saved her from an abusive owner who was seen hitting babygirl…

This absolutely adorable gal is active and spirited; she loves her walks, romping in the park and playing with toys. She is also a social butterfly who can’t wait to greet anyone who passes by. Like all puppies, Baby Girl is looking for a home where she’ll get structure, time, training and affection. Her new owner will be required to continue training with her. She is spayed, utd on shots and chipped.

Meet this little fancy super-model Malti-Poo named Ashley ! This long legged and happy go-lucky female love-bug will win your heart in just a matter of minutes ! Her pics don’t do her justice, she is just adorable! She is great with other dogs, and every person she meets.

She is active but quiet and quickly learning house manners. We think Ashley is 6 months old and has some growing to do. She is currently about 10 pounds and could certainly go out for a few nice meals to fill out a bit more. Miss Ashley is spayed and up to date on her shots. Libby, a 4-year old spayed female, loves other dogs, kids (not sure if she has lived with kids) men, and women. She an A+ on her temperament test at the shelter before being rescued. Every day of the five long weeks at the shelter she did not get depressed and was happy-go-lucky making her a volunteer favorite. The woman that pulled her and takes her on walks every day at the boarding facility where she now resides says that she greets other dogs, and everyone she meets enthusiastically. She walks well on the leash and has learned to stop and sit before crossing the road. She’s a quick learner and a joy to train- She is a petite rottie mix at only 50 pounds and makes every attempt to sit on your lap as if she is were a lap dog. She is truly a dream!

Hobster

Handsome Hobster (aka, “Hobo”) is a fawn Boxer/Pit Bull mix available for adoption through Rocket Dog Rescue. He is about one year old and currently weighs 50 pounds. Despite his turbulent start, Hobster loves everyone he meets and is eager to please. He is learning some basic commands and is very motivated by treats and food. His ability to trust and bond quickly to people will make him a rock star in training. He is also perfectly crate-trained and potty-trained.

He is currently being fostered with other dogs and is working on his manners and basic obedience. He loves his daily walks and would make an excellent jogging or hiking partner (he is great on a leash!). Hobster would thrive with an experienced owner willing to provide him the love, care, and attention that he needs.

In March, volunteers had found Hobster emaciated and ill, living as a stray along a busy and dangerous railroad track. They rescued him and brought him to our veterinarian, where he received much-needed treatment and care.

Hobster is now neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines, and microchipped. If you are interested in providing Hobster with a loving home, please email adopt@rocketdogrescue.org.

Frankie

Frankie is an extremely handsome and sweet boy. He is a young pup, still under a year. He weighs in at 54lbs. He is a blue pitbull and turns a lot of heads wherever he goes.

While Frankie is a typical puppy– pretty rambunctious and goofy–but he is also beyond the usual puppy ‘challenges.’ He is housetrained, cratetrained, walks pretty well on leash, is great in the car, and would be a great running buddy. He listens well and wants to please. He has great people skills. He loves car rides too.

Because Frankie just got out of the shelter, where he was scheduled for euthanasia due to overcrowding, we are still getting to know him as he settles in to civilian life again. He will absolutely need training because he is a strong boy and is very keen to play with other dogs, so he needs work on redirection and impulse control. But, he is showing that he is very capable of learning this.

He is UTD on shots, neutered, and will make someone very happy!

Meet Rocket! He’s a handsome 2 year old staffie mix who weighs about 40lbs. This darling boy was found abandoned and dumped in the middle of no where on a highway up north. A good samaritan stopped on the side of the road and took a photo of him laying in a ditch all beat up & covered in blood, and posted it onto craigslist. He’s now in foster care and doing so amazing. He is good with the foster dogs hes with, although would probably like to be the king of his castle. We don’t blame him as he hasn’t had the greatest experienced with dogs. He is crate trained, and does fine home alone. He walks well on leash, and knows all basic commands. He loves his people and is eager to please. Rocket is a soft and gentle dog. Loyal as well…

Boone is a 3 yr old shih tzu mix who was found as a stray…unfortunately, no one came to look for him. He is about 10 lbs, quiet, a little shy at first, but friendly. He gets along with other dogs and the shelter staff told us that he ignores cats (that is not confirmed by his foster home bc there are no cats in the household!) hes cute as can be, and a calm loving little fella. Gretel

Meet sweet little Gretel …
Gretel was rescued from a high kill shelter in Merced Ca.
Gretel is a 4 month old Terrier/Chihuahua? mix puppy. She weighs just 4.5 lbs. and I’m guessing she will be no more than 15 lbs when full grown. She is spayed and UTD on shots and has already been micro chipped. Gretel sleeps all night in her crate without a peep and is doing oh so well on her potty training (almost no accidents YAY!)
She is very quiet, sweet and playful. This pretty little girl will keep you smiling with her silly ears, long freckled legs and prancing walk.

She LOVES the other dogs in her foster home and will play with just about anyone. After some play time Gretel would like nothing more than to sit in your lap with her head resting on your chest and have a cuddle. Gretel will need continued socialization and some basic training (as all puppies do!) to ensure she grows up to be a good canine citizen … that shouldn’t be too hard, she is a really smart and special girl!

Meet Simon! He’s a 10 year old Jack Russel Terrier, but dont let his age fool you. He’s got plenty of spunk! Every morning he likes to start the day with a quick snack. He sleeps under the bed or on the couch and stays there until we get up. He loves walks!!! He jumps about waist high when you get the leash out of the drawer.
He never takes any of our son’s toys. He never touches our shoes. He always knows if a toy is for him. If it’s not his, he won’t touch it. when we get home, he grabs his bed or any toy he can find, and runs to greet us. He never destroys furniture.
He is a finicky eater.He loves to cuddle. He loves to get under the covers if we let him on the bed. When cuddling with him, it’s best to get his attention when you’re ready to get up and not surprise him. He can startle easily. He’s best one on one or relaxed at home with the family. He needs an adult home only. He is good with other dogs, and could live with a female dog.

Aden

Meet Aden. He’s a 6 month old, 50 lb, Formosan Mountain Dog.

Aden is a slighly uncoordinated pup who makes us laugh when he gets the zoomies and races around like a maniac and acts silly. He’s pretty quiet except when engaged in play where he’s a bit more vocal. He’s also a big snoozer and will also gladly entertain himself with a bone. Aden is potty trained, crate trained and gets along with people, dogs, and cats. He does well and sleeps in the car unless he’s just eaten….and then you might get a little surprise in the backseat
He’s a shy gem who will need someone that has the patience to work with him slowly and help him get adjused to city life. This will allow him to flourish into a healthy adult dog but it will take a little time and proper training. This dog is most likely not ideal for a first time dog owner.

Aden is reserved and somehow thinks the Boogeyman is everywhere! He’s not a fan of dark corners, sudden noises, and walking through doorways. Luckily, through positive reinforcement he is slowly learning, monsters aren’t everywhere to get him It took him a few days to settle into his foster home (pretty typical of most rescue dogs) and now he’ll nudge his foster mom’s hand up, to get her to pet him. He’s very intelligent and gentle.

Aden would do best in an adult household or in a family with older, respectful children. Sudden moves startle him too much (aka toddlers.)

Mickey

Meet Mickey! He is a very lovable little dog, hardly ever barks, very mild mannered, borders more on the nervous side. Mickey is good with other dogs too and ery good with small children, he has been in a house hold of 6 to 12 year olds. He is about 15 pounds, has had all his shots, neutered and micro chipped. He is 3 months old.Good on the leash and just a sweetheart!

Meet little Billy! Billy is an 8 week old terrier/chi mix. He is already starting housetraining and sleeps in his crate through the night (after a few minutes of fuss of course). He is such a loving and playful pup! His favorite activities include being near his human, chewing his puppy teeth on toys, playing with his foster dogs and giving them many kisses, taking long naps, and looking unbelievably adorable at all times! (It can get tiring looking so cute all the time )

The shelter thinks he may have a fracture in his leg and he is going to get xrays. It surely doesn’t slow him down! It should be healed within 3 more weeks.

Meet Talulah! This beautiful 60lb bundle of love came to Rocket Dog Rescue and is looking for a forever home! We think she is around 2 years old and is a american bulldog/pitbull mix. She just loves everyone, and loves to give kisses! She was very sweet with kids she met, and loves to be around people. She esp LOVES kids! You won’t find a more people friendly pitty than this gal. She thinks she’s a giant puppy..

We were contacted by some good samaritans who told us that this pretty lady was abandoned in the yard of an empty house in West Oakland, without any food, water or shelter. She sat alone day after day, and it was looking like there was no options. She was skinny, infested with fleas, had an eye infection and un-spayed. The amazing neighbors in the area started feeding her and trying to find a safe place for this little lady.

Although, we were full beyond belief and had no foster home open- we knew we could not let this poor little soul waste away, knowing any day may be her last once acc was called. She hadn’t a fair chance at life, and it shouldn’t end there. The amazing folks who were watching little Talulah drove her down to Rocket Dog, and that’s all it took to get this precious little lady on the road to recovery and in for bright future!

Tallulah needs to be the only dog in the home, and is not a dog park dog- however, she can walk by other dogs and is fine. She has been fully trained, and knows all her commands. She is housebroken and crate trained. It’s hard not to fall in love when you meet this gal.

Hambone (aka hammy) is -without a moments hesitation – one of the most lovely devoted true & exceptional souls I have ever had the honor of knowing in this world. Hammy came to us as a Oakland stray-but we soon realized what a very special dog he is. He is estimated to be about 8 years old. He likes his dog friends but would prefer to be the only dog (he is less tolerant of pushy dominant dogs- understandably..) He has enough sunshine in his heart to fill your whole world - so you will not need other dogs anyway He is a very cool guy. Hammy is thoughtful, considerate and affectionate. he is the kind of dog that you will find yourself day dreaming about when you are bored at work .. for reals. he really is that cool.

Meet Gimley! He’s a 2 years old, and is an Olde English Bulldog. He is 70lbs of muscle. This sweetheart came to us on his last day from a high kill shelter before he ran out of time! He’s a total love and wiggle but.

Meet Buster! He’s a 2 1/2 year old purebred Male Boxer. He’s a real beauty and a head turner every where he goes. Buster is extremely loyal to his people, and bonds strongly. Buster is a very active dog who will need an owner who will take him running, or hiking during the week. He’s a real love once he gets to know you. He heals on leash, knows sit, down and stay. He does great with dogs of all sizes when he is off leash.

Buster is a dominant male and does need to be the only dog in his house, and needs an experienced firm owner. Buster will not do well with owners who will baby him. He needs a strong leader, and guidance. He needs an adult home with 1-2 people. Continued training is required for his adopters.

Meet Ari, a five month old FORMOSAN mountain dog from the streets of Taiwan! This young boy survived daily danger on the streets , but was rescued and cared for by Taiwan rescuers. He is now in San Francisco looking for his forever home!

If you have never met a Taiwan dog, you will be pleasantly surprised. While they may be initially shy, they warm up quickly and are your constant companion. They are very very intelligent and learn commands easily. Housetraining is a snap as they do not like to be “dirty”…. and yes, they learn English too! Light on their feet, energetic, playful, and sweet….a perfect dog for urban and country fun!

Ace is doing great in foster care with another dog. He’s a smart pup and has learned his basic commands. He is eager to please! He loves to be around other dogs, so a home with another dog would be a plus. He is crate trained too.

Beans/Lola

Beans (white pup) and Lola (brown pup) are almost 11 mos old, a mixture of pit, lab, and hound…they originally came from a hoarding situation and Rocket Dog rescued over thirty pups at once! Lola & Beans were adopted by a loving family who, due to a dire family medical emergency, can no longer keep their dogs.

Beans is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. They have come a long way from the scared/undersocialized young pup we first met last year. They are sweet , a little shy, loves other dogs, and needs refresher obedience training, but is good with basic commands. They are both looking for a new home but DO NOT HAVE TO BE ADOPTED TOGETHER.

Wilma is a 4 year old Dachshund mix. She is about 17lbs. Wilma loves playing with our twelve year old American Bulldog, she thinks she’s bigger than he is. She would do well with another dog, but she doesn’t do well with dogs her size or smaller. Wilma loves running around the dog park and playing. Wilma would be perfectly content sitting on her Daddy’s lap all day and night. She loves to cuddle, and is protective of her family. She barks whenever someone walks by or comes into the house but then calms down. She is crate trained, she actually loves her crate, it is her safe place. She is ok with children (probably 10 and up) if they are existing members of the family.

Overall, Wilma is a sweet little lap dog who loves cuddles and zooming around the house. She has a lot of energy, and love to share. She needs an owner who has the time and patience to give her all the attention she needs, and loves doxies and the breed.

Trinity is a 6 yr old pit girl. She was returned to RD when her family of 6 years lost their housing. I can tell this sweet thing has known love in her life. She is so well behaved, knows all of her commands, she is crate and HOUSE TRAINED (yay!)

She is mellow and curious inside the safety of the house and yard. She LOVES to play ball and hang out with her people.. Trinity will need the new people in her life to be kind and patient with her while she builds her confidence again. Trinity should be an only dog and teenage children only for this gal (she’s just too big and strong for small children)
Trinity’s her former family says she chases cats and because she is so interested in them we are recommending she not go to a home with cats.
Breed experience would be a plus for her next home.

This handsome, silly pup is quite mature for his age! Ray is about 32 pounds and just parted with his brother who was adopted by a wonderful family in SF. Ray is doing very well without his leader/brother, but since he is such a social and playful guy, Ray would do best and blossom in a home with another dog. Young Ray is about 7 months of age and does not have much more growing to do. He is a typical Taiwanese dog that does not have a specific breed appearance, but as close as we can describe he must have black Labrador in his heritage. He and his brother were flown to the US by a Taiwan rescuer that said they were the only two survivors from a litter that sadly had been poisoned.

Ray’s personality is of a survivor’s nature because he has adapted very well to all kinds of situations like riding in a crate across the Pacific Ocean for 14 hours, playing at the dog park, living in our home with numerous other adult dogs, mastering local walking trails, and riding in the car. He does this all very courageously and with great enthusiasm and joy. “Ray-boy” says California is a pretty cool place to live! And he sure is glad he made the long journey. He is crate-trained, house trained, neutered, up to date on shots and ready to find a forever home !

RAY NEEDS TO GO TO A HOME WITH ANOTHER DOG, as he does extremely well with a dog and was fostered with his brother since he was a puppy.

Meet Copper! She’s a 6 year old, 100 lb Bloodhound looking for a new home! Copper’s beloved bloodhound traits (drool and baying to name a couple) have taught us much patience, we learned to love Copper for her clumsiness, loyalty, and tenacity. Cooper is a real lover, and great with people. She enjoys playing at the dog park & meeting new dog buddies. However, Copper would most enjoy being the queen bee of her new home.

She would be perfect with a couple that has time to commit to training her and exercising her and knows hound dogs. Copper would love to be adopted by someone with land where she can roam and exercise her natural instincts… sniffing out other animals, baying and chasing scents. Meet Barlow! He’s a wonderful, sweet terrier mix looking for a new home!

Barlow absolutely loves to go out for walks. He frolics at the sight
of his leash. He’s also great off-leash, has good recall, and will
stay with you on a trail. He’s medium energy, and though he can walk
for miles if you want him to, he often likes to curl up in a patch of
sunlight on the carpet or next to you on the couch. He’s housetrained
and crate trained, he knows ‘sit’ and ‘down,’ and he likes to fetch
his chew toy when you throw it. He’ll welcome you warmly when you come
home from work – he loves to be around his ‘people.’ He’s totally
adorable, and a cutie. He likes attention, and also likes to do his own thing. If you pet him and put your face hear his, he’ll give you a little kiss on the nose. Barlow is 7 years old, has never had any medical problems, and weighs about 25lbs. He is fully housebroken. He’s neutered, has all his shots, and is microchipped. He’s a fantastic companion for a single adult or couple. Barlow is happy for attention from strangers but does not like being approached by small children.

Poppy

Thank you for inquiring about Poppy! She is a two year old malti-poo mix who was purchased from a pet store as a puppy. Her owners wanted a dog to carry around in their purse and when they moved, they gave the dog to a relative. The second owner did not have any dog experience and basically left the dog in a crate during most of the past year.

Poor Poopy has not had much fun during her short life. She is shy and undersocialized and fearful. During the past week, she is slowly making progress socially: sniffing the other dogs in the house and interacting with people.

Poppy is about two years old, and 8 lbs. She should go to an adult-only home (or home with mature teens) as small kids still frighten her with their sudden movements. Having another quiet dog in the household would be a bonus.

Meet Juju! He’s a 3 year old lab/shepherd mix boy who came to us from a sacramento shelter where he ran out of time due to no fault of his own. Juju found himself left behind at the shelter when his owners went through a divorce and could no longer keep him. Juju was mainly an outdoor dog who came inside sometimes, but his owners did report he did great with there 2 kids and other small dog. His favorite activity is playing with his squeaky toys! Juju now lives inside at his foster home and is doing well. He is crate trained, and does fine home alone. He has been great with the other dogs. He is however shy upon meeting new people, but warms up quickly. Juju is a very sweet boy and has won the hearts of many already… He is nuetered, up to date on shots and chipped. Sebastian is a approx 1 year old coon hound. He is wonderful with other dogs and great with people. This guy really likes to have a good time and always seems to have a smile on his face.

In his foster home it has been determined that he is house trained and has some house manners and with time will develop more. He has progressed nicely at learning to walk on leash but does have great strength and pulls, so that will need to be addressed. He has been a great playmate with another large dog in foster care and is polite to all other dogs he sees on walks.
More than anything this guy is a huge love bug. He really loves his people and wants to hang out and be part of the family.

Meet Panda! This amazing, wonderful & gentle boy came to us from a Animal Rescue Corps where he was saved with lots of other dogs from a hoarding situation. He was only with other dogs. Panda has been so amazing with many of our volunteers since he’s come to us. He has bonded strongly to his foster mom, as he will with his new home. He LOVES “his” people and will stay close. We think he’s around 2 years old.

He thinks he’s a lap dog and will spend hours sitting with you, trying to get into your lap. He’s a true lover boy. He is great with dogs of all sizes. He does need continued socialization as he is very shy with new people and scared in new environments He also needs someone who will teach hi basic commands and work on more training with him.

Meet Minnesota Fats! This boy is all around just a awesome, happy go lucky older gentleman. He was saved from a high kill shelter on his last day before he was scheduled to be put to sleep. We think he’s around 7- 9 years old.

His favorite activities consist of running at the beach, taking long walks at a park and being with his people. He does well in the house when home alone, and can be left free. He loves his big fluffy dog bed and will spend a lot of time curled up in it. It’s hard to mee this boy and not fall in love. He’s so devoted and kind. He wants to be your main guy (so would be best as the only dog) and promises to give you lots of love. Minnesota is a perfect pal to have around & his new owners are going to be very happy.

Meet Delilah! She’s an ADORABLE american bulldog/basset hound…”Delilah is a fun, ridiculously cute, sweet and silly girl- Delilah weighs 82 pounds (!!) and to me she looks a little like if Pixar had been asked to design a dog .. and even though she is estimated to be 4 years old, she has a young, happy and playful attitude and has been seen bouncing around with all 4 of her dainty lil feet off the ground playing with her tiny stuffed toy .. When shelter volunteers met Delilah at her kennel door she was wagging her tail and was happy to let us put a leash on and take her outside- apparently housebroken she took care of biz right away.. Delilah had a lot of energy when initially we went out to the play yard and she ran out around to burn some of her energy off. Delilah is very puppy like and would benefit from basic obedience training and leash manners. Initially Delilah was interested in playing with the toys and did not want to let go of them, but after a few minutes she could have cared less about keeping the toy to herself. Niiiice cause I, personally, might not have given mu toy up. ..just sayin’ … Delilah allowed the volunteer to keep her hand on her chewey bone and, you know, for hungry girls like me & Delilah .. that can be tricky But she was not worried at all and let the volunteer take her chewey .. Delilah is a huge cuddlebug and likes to snuggle up next to you to be petted. She really is a cool & lovely girl that will make an amazing BEST friend …

Snuffy has been the loyal and devoted family member to an amazing man (& dear friend of us all) who had dedicated his life to helping others .. sadly snuffys gaurdian passed away after very long serious illness leaving his beloved snuffy with us.. Fiddle is chi – pug mix who is Super Cute and has the sweetest disposition. He just wants to make you happy and tries very hard every minute of the day.

It is a miracle…Faith has regained her eyesight! She was seen and treated by a veterinary ophthalmologist who had followed her for several weeks….with a medicine regimen and time, Faith’s eyes are now normal and clear and she can definitely see! We still do not know for sure what caused the cloudiness in her eyes (we have a few theories…) but right now we are celebrating that Faith is healthy and happy.

Faith has learned so much in the past few weeks…she can walk up and down stairs, she still pulls on leash, but is learning quickly , and she gets along with other dogs (she will ignore the little yippy dogs). Please come and meet our lovely girl…she is a true gem!

Welcome Remy to Rocket Dog Rescue! Remy is a 3-4 year old female pitty mix who is just a beautiful, lovely lady. Remy came to us after being tied up to Scrap in San Francisco and just left there. She then ended up in the shelter, but due to her being stressed and shy needed to come to a rescue!

Remy is now in foster care with us and she’s doing well. She is gentle, loving and calm. She will give you sweet little kisses, and loves to be near her people. Remy is fostered with 2 other dogs, and does well. She is still warming up and can be shy when first meeting new people, but she’s a true love. She will make a great addition to someone’s home. Kirby is a striking dog , new to Rocket Dog rescue. He may be part Cavalier King Charles spaniel mixed with a mystery breed…. Poor Kirby was found stray in a small town where there are very few adoptions at the shelter, which means most dogs are euthanized.

We think Kirby is about 1 1/2 yrs-2 yrs old….he is a bit shy at first, but warms up quickly. He is going to the vet soon for his neuter surgery and microchipping and vaccines, but is available to meet potential adopters in the meantime…He’s a wiggly, happy go lucky and loving boy. He is great with every person and dog he meets!

Meet Bear! Don’t let his size fool you! This handsome hunk of love is just that, a gentle, loving, loyal BIG teddy bear! Bear is around 8 months old, and weights 75lbs and was found as a stray roaming the streets of the big city. He jumped into someone’s car during a family ride, and although they had a full house and another dog – they could not leave this special boy at the pound so they held onto him. He is now being fostered through Rocket Dog and is waiting for that special home!

There’s so much to say about Bear, it’s hard to even begin to explain the amount of amazing dog in him. His demeanor is EXCELLENT, this boy is a one of a kind. You won’t meet a dog as cute as Bear, and with an amazing temperament like him anywhere. Bear is good with every person he meets, and LOVES children and is good with other dogs. He is goofy, chunky and sweet. What a personality! Bear knows how to sit, and has pretty good manners on leash. He does love to give kisses, he will give every stranger on the street a kiss. We have named Bear, the pitbull ambassador! He is going to make an amazing ambassador for the breed.

We are looking for a home with someone who has breed experience or large breed dog experience- and will continue to do training with Bear as he is easily taught and very motivated.. Hey There! I’m RED ROBIN! I’m a real cute shepherd/pit mix. Yea, I’m a really cute and sweet guy. I’m a new addition to Rocket Dog… I haven’t had the best luck as I was living at a rural shelter in an outdoor kennel for the last 2 YEARS! The great folks at RDR felt so bad for me, because I’m such a good boy and so badly deserved a chance in a foster home getting to be a lucky dog who sleeps in a bed at night, and gets to be outand about, so they took me in!

Well,now i’m in foster care – and I’m not gonna lie, I LOVE it. Although, the great folks at the shelter did take care of me, and hoped everyday was the day I was getting adopted – I really do enjoy my cool foster mom who takes me on long walks, and I have these awesome dogs I live with who just want to play, play, play! My foster mom got me a big comfy bed and she said it’s all mine! Yahoo! I am fostered with other dogs, and do great! I love to play!! I’m crate trained and do well in the house and would be fine with another dog or as the only dog.

ok, that’s all about me for now. But what I really, really want is this kind of place forever … and they tell me I will find a forever home SOON where I will be a beloved part of someone’s family, and if it’s anything like this- well, that I am super duper excited!!

Roxie is a smaller 2 year old female pit mix who came to Rocket Dog
from the city shelter.

She is one of those lucky girls that has it all – head-turning good
looks, brains, and the most wonderful personality. She is oh-so-sweet
and agreeable, easy-going, and has a wide range of interests. Whether
it’s going for walks (or runs), playing fetch, riding in the car,
hanging out at a cafe, playing with (large) stuffed animals, a good
game of tug-o-war with her foster brother, or keeping the vacuum
cleaner in line, she is up for most anything and approaches it all
with the sunniest of dispositions. She already knows sit, stay, and
rollover and will thrive in a rewards-based training class because she
is such a smart lady.

While she is a young energetic dog, she settles down easily and
absolutely loves her quiet time with her person (preferably on your
lap!). Her absolute favorite thing is probably snuggling up on the
couch in the evenings, gently snoring.

Roxie is housetrained, can be left at home without issue (she sleeps
on her bed quietly), spayed, UTD on her shots. She will truly be a
great family dog and would be very happy to share her home with
another doggie friend.

Curly

This mop of a fellow was left in a Southern Calif shelter where his undercoat was literally soaked in urine from the filthy kennels…..

Fortunately, an angel of a rescuer (thank you to Anna!) petitioned to save this boy and he was brought to Rocket Dog rescue….he received a much needed bath (shampooed four times before the water started to look less brown!) and a visit to the vet for a check up. Curly was declared in good health and the vet thought he was no more than 9-10 yrs old! He probably has congenital cataracts which causes clouding in the eyes at a much younger age than anticipated. There is no cure for this and Curly has adapted quite well to his visual barriers.

We think Curly could be a Tibetan terrier, he is about 35 lbs and very social with most dogs….he can get around the house just fine, once he is oriented to his surroundings.

After another consult with a third vet, it was determined that Curly is probably 10 or 11 yrs old, closer to his first “guesstimated” age. He is still energetic and he does enjoy his food. But it seems that not only does Curly have vision problems, he is also very hard of hearing. Oh, the cruelty of age……

Curly also suffers from Sundowners’ Syndrome, which is an early form of dementia. This phenomenon occurs in people AND dogs and is recognized by the disorientation that comes between dusk and dawn. With Curly, it is especially disconcerting because he already does not have most of his sight or hearing….imagine if you were stuck in a world of darkness and silence! When Curly is confused, he will bite out of fear. For that reason, we recommend a home without children.

Curly does well if oriented to new surroundings…he is quiet and content to sit by your side. He needs to be leashed and carefully lead down any stairs for his safety.

He’s a border collie mix puppy who came to us from Glenn County, captured as part of a feral dog redemption effort by volunteers bringing relief from a hoarding situation in which the subject lost her home, and then turned all her unfixed dogs out doors before leaving the property…

Since we’ve had him-since last Sunday-what’s emerged is a smart, sweet, playful, soulful beautiful boy that is highly intelligent and is going to make someone very happy. He has been fixed, is up to date on shots and chipped.

This little cutie girl is Rachel ! She came to us by way of Kansas…just kidding, but she does look a lot like Toto, the famous pup from Wizard of Oz. She has a big character, like an actress and loves to show off. We think she is a Cairin Terrier mix and is 1 to 2 years old. Rachel is a great leash walker and has a huge stamina for such a small girl of approx. 12 pounds. She has gone on walks for up to 3 miles and is happy to keep going if you desire. Rachel is crate trained, house trained, spayed, and up to date on her shots. Now she just needs a good walking partner(s) and loving person to give her a happy forever home….just not in Kansas!

Meet this pretty girl socks! Socks is a very smart and sweet dog! She is very alert, she loves to cuddle and is very obedient. She is crate trained and potty trained to go outside on grass. She rarely ever barks, so she will fit perfectly in a home where a quiet dog is a must! Socks loves playing with stuffed animal toys, and she is very good at knowing which toys are hers to play with and which aren’t. She has a nice soft black coat and a really cute face that everyone will love!

Socks does best with females, and she tends to be afraid of males at times, but this can be worked on.. But she loves every girl she meets and will be such a loving and loyal dog to her owner.

This sweetheart was rescued with her bloodhound sister when the owners left them at the shelter as a euthanasia request because they couldn’t keep them. Angelique does have a tweeked vertebrae in her back which causes her to walk a little funny, but it does not cause her any pain or stop her from running at full speed. Meet Lovely Duke! He’s a sweet old man shepherd who came to us from a high kill shelter hours away right before he was slated for euthanasia. This sweet boy touched many people’s hearts and they just couldn’t see him being killed.

Duke is more loving than even words can describe. He is loyal, gentle and soulful. This senior boy would make a perfect companion for a mellow home who wants a great companion. Duke does have a fused disc in his spine which makes him walk with a limp in his back legs but he still get around fine. He gets a pain medication once a day. His health is otherwise perfect.

Duke does fine with all other dogs, and may be fine with cats as well due to his gentle, mellow demeanor. This lovely boy needs a foster or forever home…

Wally

Wally is a 6 year old shihtzu mix. He is housebroken and crate trained. Wally is an adorable goof ball. The only thing more important to him than food and toys, is the company of his human. Be prepared for Wally to be at your side at all times, ready for a cuddle or a game of catch me if you can.

Wally will most likely do best in a one doggie, no kiddie home, as he tends to be protective about food. So give him space during meal time, though he is not aggressive towards people, you’ll have a hell of a time trying to get back that chicken breast that fell on the kitchen floor.
Out on the street and at the dog park, Wally is lamb. He is excited to meet new friends, though a little shy at first, he is always on his on best behavior, and ready for a game of fetch. Expect Wally to take some time adjusting to your home. He is crate trained and still working on house training, so a set schedule with frequent trips to potty town will get him on the right track.

Wally will make a great addition to your home. He brings smiles, laughter and joy wherever he roams.

Trooper is a 64 lb, 10 month old, Blue Doberman. Trooper is deaf. He is neutered, potty trained, and a real sweetie! He loves his tennis ball, people, other dogs, and knows several hand signals and is eager to please his people. I have had several Doberman’s and he has the typical Doberman characteristics, but he is also very mellow for his age and just a happy little guy. Because he is so well behaved, it’s important that we find him a foster home or Forever home as soon as possible.

Trooper was dumped at a vets office as a puppy to be killed because the breeder realized he was deaf. Trooper is an amazing dog. We couldn’t imagine a world without him. If you love dobermans, you will truly fall in love with this little man. His parents had excellent temperaments, as does Trooper.

We are looking for someone who has breed experience/ knows deaf dogs. He needs a home who will continue to work with him on hand signals and give him plenty of exercise. We would like him to find a FOREVER home where he has stability.

Josie is a sweet and loyal carrin terrier mix, who is ready for her forever home. She has spent much of her life on her own & in the shelter and is eager to find a forever home where she can settle in and be part of the family. ..

Josie is around a year old. She is 15 lbs. and full of wonderful puppy energy. She is charming, loving, curious and whip smart. Josie has quickly learned how to walk on leash and “go potty” when brought outside. With additional training she is sure to be able to move past basic manners and commands to learn any number of tricks. She is crate trained and feels very comfortable and secure in her crate home.

Josie is very comfortable with other dogs and loves to snuggle with them. She seems to have no interest in cats… sniffing, then ignoring the cat in her foster home. She’s an amazing dog, and is going to make someone very happy.

Josie is spayed and current on all her shots & chipped.

Happy is a sweet 10 month old Blue Nose Pit Bull who loves to cuddle and play. Happy is currently being fostered and her foster parents are working with Rocket Dog to find her a new home! She loves to run and play with other dogs, and especially enjoys a good game of chase. She is very smart and responsive to her humans, and knows how to sit and come when she’s called (She is in training right now to learn her heels and downs!). She is spayed, chipped, and up to date on all her shots. She is eager to please and would do best in a home with another dog companion as she is very social, and with a family or adult that likes to take her on adventures and has an active lifestyle.

Lloyd

Lloyd is a one year old purebred Great Dane who is looking for a new home. Lloyd is over 150 lbs and is a very big boy. He is a loving and loyal boy who wants nothing more than to be with his people, and snuggle up. He is affectionate and cute as can be! He bonds strongly to his people, and is eager to please. He is a bossy boy and needs a strong leader.

We are looking for a special home for Lloyd. He was adopted out to a wonderful home, however they have a busy household with people coming and going – and Llyod can be a nervous boy – and has started becoming protective of the house. He barks at strangers who come in and is a dominant boy. He also gets upset when his people leave the house. ..His current owners love him dearly & are sad to give him up.

Lloyd needs a home with someone who is assertive and will play the “alpha role” and not let him get away with these bad habits. He needs an ADULT HOME, with one or two people. A quiet house where lots of people are not always coming and going. He also needs someone who has experience with large, strong breeds. If he lived with another dog, it should be a dog around his size (not a tiny dog). He is a very active boy, and loves hiking, and going to the park. He would do best in a home where someone could take him on daily outings. He is neutered, and up to date on shots.

Diezel

Diezel is an 8-year-old beautiful Malamute. He was surrendered by his previous owne who could no longer care for him. He previously had one owner since a pup. He is very sweet, super friendly with other people, great with other dogs at the dog park, fine with cats and small children. He was an outside dog primarily and will need to be crate trained & learn basic training indoors. He loves to run off leash at the dog park or beach or to go for long walks on leash. He is not savvy about cars, so does need leashing when in town. He is up on his vaccinations, is healthy. Diezel needs a home with some space to be out of doors, maybe have a K9 buddy and to be with someone who will love to take him out on walks and adventures. He’s a loyal and wonderful dog who will make a great addition to someone’s home.

Bugsy

Meet Bugsy! If this isn’t the cutest little girl we have ever seen! Bugsy is a pitbull/basset hound mix coming to us from a high kill shelter where she was very stressed out being in a small cage. The volunteers love her and say she’s a wonderful little boy. Full of tail wags and kisses. She has the best of both words, basset and pitty. What a lovely dog. She is estimated to be about a year old. Bugsy does well with other dogs, and wants to play!

Timmy

Meet Timmy! he’s an adorable 2 year old Pekinese mix boy who came to us from the San Jose Animal shelter. Timmy is a sweet boy with a soft thick coat. He so badly wants a family of his own… we can’t believe anyone would leave this sweetheart behind… This boy needs a home with adults or teenagers who are calm. He bonds strongly to his people.

Timmy does not like being grabbed or startled. After getting settled, TImmy’s confidence may lead him to challenge other dogs in the household, especially if they are bigger or more alpha. He can be ok with most dogs but prefers to be the only dog ….he wants to be the alpha dog in the house! He is crate trained and walks well on leash. He is crate trained, and house trained.

June Bug

Meet June Bug! She’s an adorable 5 year old Miniature Dachsund who just arrived at Rocket Dog. This sweet little lady was brought to us by a good samaritan after being found alone & scared in the streets of Martinez, CA.

June Bug is one ADORABLE little girl who loves everyone. She is housebroken and crate trained- and enjoys being with her people. She is very loving, and low maintenance. She’s devoted and calm and true to the breed. June Bug is fine with other dogs. She has her bags packed and is ready for her new home!

Cooper

SPECIAL NEEDS:

Cooper is a 2 year old Black Lab who weighs 48lbs. He came to us from a shelter after his owners surrendered because they couldn’t keep up with him. Cooper is a VERY high energy dog who does need a good amount of exercise every day. Coopers favorite thing in the world is playing ball, and going to the dog park for hours. He is excellent with other dogs and is currently fostered with a cat. He is gentle, loving and kind with every single person he meets. Every single volunteer who has met Cooper, says they can never forget Cooper.

Cooper rarely ever calms down- and always is busy, busy, busy. He does need a good routine and lots of stimulation to keep him busy. He does NOW sleep in his crate at night, and can sleep through the night. Cooper does have a neurological issue which causes him to become hyper active. He is currently on medication once a day for this, which does help. Cooper does bond extremely well with his people, and is a loyal and amazing dog. True to the breed.

Cooper would be an excellent dog for a country home who could exercise him on plenty of land, or a great working dog.
