Just a quick note to let you know how Jackson is doing. Today I took him to the Marin Human Society to be neutered. She told me that he weighed 19 lbs. Pretty amazing, since he was only 13 lbs. when you had him.
I also go to the humane society every week for obedience training. He is so smart! We’ve been working on sit, down, stay, come, and fetch. All the usuals. The one he needs the most work on is “off” for down…don’t jump up. He’s getting better, but still needs work. He’s so enthusiastic, he greets everyone with jumping up.
This weekend my granddaughter and I fixed up our old dog’s doghouse that I made with their mother. We sanded it down, made a new roof and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Then I bought a sheepskin pad that fits inside for wall-to-wall comfort. Right now, he’s laying on the sheepskin in our bedroom. Tomorrow, when the paint is all dry I will move the sheepskin into the dog house and he’ll have a nice, clean place in the yard when he wants it.
I’ve been taking him to the office several days a week and we go to the park a couple blocks from our house every day. He already knows all the other dogs and loves to run with the younger ones. The older dogs tolerate him, but really can’t be bothered with puppy play.
But the thing you have to know is that it is impossible to go anywhere with Jackson without being stopped by someone who says how cute he is. People think he is a movie dog or a TV or commercial dog. It’s the funniest thing! And if Aubriana is with me, she always says the same thing. (I don’t know if you remember how verbal and not shy my grand daughter is.) “This is Jackson. He’s a rescue dog. My grandpa rescued him.” It’s pretty cute.
Anyway, he’s a great dog. Thriving and learning and very social. (the first time I took him to Stinson Beach, he was afraid of every other dog!) We love him in our family and include him in most of our activities. When we do go to a movie or someplace he can’t go, he’s perfectly fine in the yard during the day or in his crate for a couple of hours at night. He was housebroken with very few mistakes and is generally a very good boy.
Thanks again for fostering Jackson – Bruce
