Sundae is a 10 month-old Catahoula/Lab mix, weighing approximately 55 pounds. She is lovingly referred to as the “sloth”, as she climbs very slowly, eats slowly, licks your hand slowly, stretches out- slowly.
She is current on all vaccinations, worming, and recently received her International Veterinary Health Certificate. She was noted as having excellent musculature, proper weight and coat quality. She is spayed, and attended Puppy 1 and 2 training classes last fall.
Sundae is a shy girl, but is able to quickly bond to her humans. She loves her people and wants to be by your side. She plays extremely well with other rambunctious bigger dogs. She enjoys her doggie friends, big and small. She travels very well in the back seat of the car, having done several all day trips, (a slight noisy yawn means potty break, otherwise not a peep!)
Sundae spends her evenings usually on her bed in the living area, or stretched out on her blanket on the couch , which she knows only to use when it is in place. She eats very slowly, and respects the other dogs bowl and eating.
She knows to sit in the “box” (bed) whenever her people get home and awaits a treat. Sundae knows sit, box, down, and wait commands fairly well. She knows how to use the doggie door. She is best at come when around the home, when not distracted- (work in progress.) She makes her people laugh when she knows that she is going on a “walk” and stands on her hind feet and hops in excitement.
Sundae loves watching (and chasing) squirrel and birds in the yard. She is protective of her property and will alert at unfamiliar noise on the stairway. She absolutely loves the beach!
She sleeps well in a crate, but she soon figured out how to let herself out the doggie door at night, and has never had an accident. Nor has she feasted on any furniture or belongings while we have been out of the home. She either sleeps by her human’s bed, out in her living area bed, or at her human’s feet.Sundae is working on being less fearful, and is comfortable with people she knows. She is comfortable with dogs she knows on walks, but will join in the posturing when meeting unfamiliar, aggressive ones. She is unsure of what “kids “ are to her, so she shies away or barks at them. (Hoodies have the same effect.) She excels in training and is a total love bug in the home.
Her ideal home would be someone active, with another resident dog to show her the ropes, older kids (15+) and someone who will continue socializing and training her to make sure she’s a confident and happy go lucky young adult. Sundae would benefit from continuous socialization and training classes to help her understand that kids and unknown things are not as scary as they may seem.
If you think you would be the right fit for Sundae, please submit an application and a volunteer will respond to you shortly. (BS)
