Sweet 7-8 year old Senior hound (Treeing Walker Coonhound) Amy came to Rocket Dog as part of our rescue effort to save 30 hounds from a hunt club. She is sweet as can be, easy going and docile. This loving and quiet girl is looking to spend the rest of her life with a quiet family – for a hound she rarely barks! She loves affection and giving love, if you can’t tell check out the constant tail wagging when you give her attention! While we think Amy would benefit from a low activity household she has plenty of energy for walks and hikes. She is all hound and loves to smell all the smells.
Amy has got lots of stamina for an older pup and can execute 4 mile hikes with ease but totally loves to curl up next to you on the couch and cuddle and receive belly rubs.
She seems to be fine around critters and has been introduced to multiple cats, showing little interest – basically ignoring them, and she does not react to squirrels (slow introductions to cats are always recommended).
At her foster’s she has gone to the beach and had a great time climbing dunes and cliffs with ease and enjoying fresh air. She does pretty well in the car and at 50 pounds she’s easy to handle. She is fully housebroken and has obedience training. She spent Thanksgiving at a volunteer’s house where she received gentle pets from toddlers and was patient and loving with them. She’s all around a lovely companion who likes to check on her human and ask for treats during the day, follow mom and dad around to see if she can help with the chores (or just grab a table scrap really). She’s one of the most relaxed and chill dogs we’ve ever had! Please consider opening your home and your heart for this quiet and loving dog. (GA)
