Betsy is a very lucky girl! She was found as a stray on the 4th of July by a good Samaritan, and brought to the Rocket Dog sanctuary on one of the worst nights of the year for dogs. We estimate Betsy’s age at somewhere between 11 and 13 years old and she weighs about 13 lbs. Her background is a mystery, but what is clear is her medical needs were neglected for a long time. Her elbow joints are stiff and at an odd angle, but don’t worry! She gets around in her own way and loves to go for short walks to go potty and she enjoys a good sniffari! She’ll even break into a wonky little run if she’s excited about something. Thanks to Rocket Dog’s incredible supporters’ donations, she has also had a full dental surgery including the extraction of all of her teeth, which were causing her pain and chronic infection. You might see her signature fangs in some pictures, but she’s now toothless. For that reason, Betsy needs to be on a soft diet, but it hasn’t slowed her down one bit. She loves meal time!
While her backstory is unknown, it’s clear someone loved and cared about her at some point. She’s very happy, affectionate, loves people, seeks out attention and pets and she’s a pro at soft beds and furry blankets. She can even launch herself on to the couch for a prime snuggle spot! She is also crate trained and house trained, and is fine being left alone for reasonable amounts of time. With a proper introduction, she would be fine with a mellow dog companion. She peacefully coexists with a small dog at her foster home. Because of her mobility limitations, older, respectful children only. Despite her age and neglect-related medical issues, she is surprisingly hearty! Her vision, hearing, and digestion appear to be excellent.
Betsy truly charms everyone she meets and is a really special gal with a hilarious, sassy personality. We know the perfect home is out there to pamper her for her remaining years! (KM)
