Meet Buck! He is a gentle yet rambunctious, beautiful, athletic, energetic, lovable and sensitive boy being raised in a caring foster home. He is SO SMART! He has very few accidents in the home once he got a routine scheduled to go outside. He goes in and out of the house (if the door is open) to potty. He follows and takes cues from his older foster sisters. He’s being socialized with lots of loving human attention, dogs, and even horses! He will be going to a home who is truly committed to proper training, socialization, and care to make sure he becomes the best breed ambassador of the pit bull breed!
Buck will be between 50-65 lbs when fully grown. His mom is a very sweet, loving, and energetic young adult so we assume he’ll be similar to her awesome demeanor as well.
***UPDATE: After some significant time has been spent getting to know this sweet boy, we have come to the conclusion that there is a great possibility that “Buck” is most likely deaf. Have no fear! Deaf dogs are still highly trainable and lovable pups. Please check out THIS ARTICLE that gets into greater detail about the pros of living with a deaf dog and tips of how to train and bond with your amazing deaf pup. Side-note: Buck’s very experienced foster says, “sooo easy compared to other pups his age!”
Due to his impaired hearing, he will ideally be adopted out to a home with an already resident dog. Buck loves to follow and have another dog act as his “ears.”
Before you submit your application for this cute-as-a-button face, please make sure to ponder the following:
- When it comes to any puppy, think about what the dog is being encouraged to do now and ask yourself if this will be wanted behavior when the puppy is bigger and stronger. So while it may be adorable when a tiny puppy jumps up on people for attention, climbs up onto the couch and gnaws on people’s hands, that behavior isn’t so cute when the puppy is adult size, with adult teeth.
- Plan to take basic training classes with your new dog. A class builds the skills for the dog and creates lasting bonds with his or her new family.
- Socializing: Have your puppy meet as many nice people and other animals as possible to learn and keep great social skills. Protect him from bad experiences. Fear causes many dogs to become defensive, and defensive behavior is seen as aggression.
- Exercise: Buck will need a lot of daily exercise, both physically and mentally, for him to be the best adult dog he can be. A tired dog truly is a happy dog (and owner!)
Are you ready for a full time job with Buck? Are you committed to cleaning, training, and socializing Buck for the rest of his life? If you are ready for puppyhood (being home every 2-3 hours), he would love to meet you. Please apply here to meet Buck. (BS)
