This little terrier was brought into the Lake County animal control system when he and a female border collie walked into the Clearlake shelter together, presumably to turn themselves in. His friend found a home right away, and when Rocket Dog came to collect him for foster care, he was so terrified he was hiding under the small cot in the kennel.
That was in the spring, and after months of pack life with his foster family, he’s being encouraged to strike out into the wider world, and free up a slot for another shelter dog.
His foster states; “Chappy is kind of a canine imp. He flits around from one dog to the next (or person) and ingratiates himself with fawning affection. He has no ambition to be more than he is, he is low status as well as low maintenance. Whatever trauma he endured living on the mean streets, he can still be a little shy and skittish at times.
But he has a heart of gold. “Always means well” might sound like cold praise, but it would never occur to him to do anything he knew wasn’t allowed.
He’s a happy little guy, likes to fetch and unafraid of water, he’s very tough in mixed terrain and long endurance. He would do great with a family with kids and a yard, low impact apart from some “alarm yapping” when the doorbell rings etc but that can be discouraged with a verbal reprimand.
Chappy is about two years old, and tips the scale at 16 pounds, making this character highly portable.”
