Sweet Charlie! Charlie is a 1-2 year old cheerful and gentle terrier mix. He was found living as a stray in a cemetery where we believed he had been left a few months earlier. Dirty and covered with burs, he lived off of kibble and water the cemetery caretakers left out for him, but he was too shy and skittish to let anyone approach.
All that changed once he settled in at his foster home. Charlie is the definition of a sweetie pie, full of joy, exuberance, and affection for his foster parents, always eager for belly rubs, kisses and cozy cuddling! He’s devoted to his foster mom and follows her around just to sleep near her once she’s settled. He’s also happy for his fosters to pick him and carry him whenever, and he’s patient when they need to do things he might not enjoy, like check his paws for foxtails.
Though Charlie is still shy when he meets new people, he’s becoming more and more comfortable making new friends and is making great progress on learning to trust people. He’s been good with cats and though he’s very shy with other dogs, he seems to long for their friendship.
Charlie does have some separation anxiety and would likely benefit from being in a home with a friendly, confident dog he could hang out with and learn from. Charlie is also energetic so he needs a lot of exercise, and he also loves being outside. A home with a yard would be ideal, but he could get by with lots of long walks.
Charlie is house trained and good on a leash – though he does sometimes detour to try to dig, and he will pause in fascination when he sees a new dog (and sometimes will even lay down out of the way until that dog has passed). He’s still cautious when he passes new people though he’s getting more relaxed with them. Until he’s become more comfortable with other people and dogs, walks on quiet streets would be the best for him.
More than anything, Charlie has such a colorful, happy personality. He has so much love to give and tries so hard to be good! You’ll be swept off your feet by the soulful eyes and deeply loving personality of Charlie, who will make a wonderful and devoted best friend. Charlie is about 25 pounds of love.
