Coco was found stray in the Central Valley town of Delano. No one came to claim this lovely lady border collie mix. She is about 1 yr old, 40 lbs and loves people and other dogs (not tested with cats). She loves to play with the resident dogs in her foster home.
Special needs: at some unfortunate moment before coming to the shelter, Coco suffered an injury to her front left leg (it’s believed she was hit by a car). There was a fracture to her left elbow joint that healed in an unfortunate way. She does have an intermittent limp. It does not appear to cause her any acute pain.
Coco’s leg has been x-rayed and examined by several vets, including a consult with a team of veterinary orthopedists at UCDAVIS. The conclusion is she would not benefit from any surgery due to the location of injury. Surgery would likely make the condition worse. Coco may likely develop arthritis in that leg in the future. She should not be over-exercised (running long distances, jumping, high impact activities) but kept to walks and lower impact activities. Lifetime weight management is necessary in order to lessen any undue stress on her joints (and is healthier for her, too!).
