She was adopted by a family who adores her but who’ve realized that as two working parents of a toddler, they don’t have the time to give her all that she needs. She has been such a special part of their family and they are heartbroken about it, but they know she deserves a home where she can truly blossom.
Daphne is a 55-lb retriever/shepherd mix and is approximately 1-2 years old. Her favorite thing in the world is snuggling with her humans or taking a nap under their feet. She also loves chewing on her bones and kong and going for long walks. Daphne is housebroken, crate-trained, and knows some basic commands. She even goes on her “place” during meals. Daphne knows to stay off the furniture, although she needs a reminder from time to time (after all, getting closer to the cuddles is what she wants most!).
This gorgeous girl is great with people but needs a family who can help her work through her reactivity to other dogs. She has majorly improved in the last seven months (which included two weeks at a board and train), but she is still a work in progress. Sometimes she is able to pass other dogs on the street no problem but other times she will still growl and lunge. She has done well with other dogs in previous fosters, so we think there is hope, but it’s going to take an experienced and dedicated new owner to help her move forward. And even though she showers human guests with love and affection (sometimes a little too much), Daphne also tends to be protective of her house and barks at the mail carrier and any other perceived intruders when they first step onto the porch.
