Please meet Dixie, a young and petite mama who looks to be a purebred Cattle Dog who is still weaning her (2) young pups. (Please no inquiries about these pups at this time; RD will post when we are taking applications.) Dixie is about 2 years old and weighs 20-25 lbs. She is a petite and basically perfect sized dog who is super loyal and also super sensitive. She is definitely a head turner as she’s got a beautiful mottled coat with lovely Cattle Dog markings and looks, but with that beautiful face comes a very traumatized soul.
Miss Dixie has had a very troubled past and will need a very, very dedicated person to love on her for the rest of her life. You see, Cattle Dogs, are an extremely loyal breed. They are sensitive and will stand by your side forever. We do not know what happened to her before she came to us; but, what we do know is this poor girl has had a very difficult start to her short life.
Dixie is a very good mama and has been tending to her (2) sweet pups and will continue to nurse them for the next 7-8 weeks or so. We hope that during this time she will learn to trust humans again. She is currently in a very quiet and loving foster home who is working very slowly and patiently loving on her and giving her the time to trust again.
Dixie is in need of a very dog-savvy home and even better yet, a home which understands that dogs like Dixie, will need A LOT of patience, love and gentleness to help her come out of her shell. She is not for novice owners and will need someone who understands this kind of behavior (which manifests itself including but not limited to cowering, hiding) and willing to work with her for months to come. Dixie needs to be in a quiet, adult-only home.
Dixie is trying to trust and she is a lovely girl underneath her severe fear and anxiety, but once you give her that time and love, she will love you and be your loyal friend to the end of your days.
She will be adopted out only to someone who can demonstrate knowledge on special needs dogs like Dixie. If interested, please make sure to write about your experience about dogs like Dixie when submitting an adoption application. (BS)
