During the worst day of the October fires in Mendocino County, two large dog was seen running down a road, away from a hill that was in flames. An ambulance stopped and picked them up, and brought them to the Ukiah shelter where they were well cared for.
Both have been spayed, both have microchips. The contact information led to a dead end-a disconnected phone number–but their names and ages were recorded in the chip. Zoey has been adopted.
Ellie, is eight. She is a very stable, affectionate and easy-going girl, that thrives on a kind word and loves her walks a couple of times a day. She was overweight when she went into foster care, but has dropped around 15 pounds in a few weeks time and now weighs about 85 lbs. Ellie is very Zen, very low maintenance, and great company.
Ellie gets along well with other dogs (although a little “bossy” at first, responding well to discouragement by a human monitor) and loves people. Cat are unknown, but seems to have a low prey drive. Country dogs of this type are usually indifferent to other pets and livestock; ranchers and farmers select those traits in dogs, so they need not bother about them worrying other species on the property.
Ellie would make great family dogs, kids of any age that are dog savvy.
