Flossie is a stunning Australian Cattle Dog with the most beautiful markings! She is about 2-3 years old, weighs around 40 lbs and was found as a pregnant stray.
Flossie has been an exceptional mother to her 8 puppies! She has been attentive, protective and ensured they were well fed. Everything that you could ask for a mother dog to do, she has done it. Flossie has good leash manners. She doesn’t pull and enjoys taking walks with the occasional sniff here and there. She is not reactive on her leash. Squirrels do catch her eye – that is the only time she has tried to pull and even then, she won’t pull your arm off! She is responsive to her name so you can get her attention fairly easily. She can be a little nervous when a big vehicle passes by (such as a garbage/recycling truck or a street cleaner) so not sure that city life would be ideal for her.
Flossie is a loyal companion and protective of her home. When she hears a neighbor dog bark, she will bark in return. When she sees a neighbor dog pass by the house, she will bark. She does have a loud bark so if you are bark sensitive, that needs to be considered. As a pregnant dog, she did not exhibit this behavior. Since her 8 puppies are still in the house with her, this may or may not resolve once she is puppy-free. She may always want to protect her home and human family. As mentioned above, she is responsive to her name so this could be addressed with continued training.
Flossie is not a toy dog – she seems to have no interest in them – perhaps she was never introduced to them as a puppy. She’s not really food driven – when given treats, she prefers to take them outside and bury them in the garden or elsewhere in the backyard.
Flossie has been in a home with older children (ages 10 and 14) and is very gentle with them. She has not been tested with younger children. She seems to warm up to new people fairly quickly and enjoys their company. She enjoys being part of a family and loved on for sure!
Flossie has not been in a foster home with other dogs or cats. She has not been introduced to other dogs due to the current environment. Since squirrels do catch her eye, a cat companion may not work.
Flossie has not exhibited any signs of separation anxiety.
Flossie is house-trained and prefers to potty in her own yard rather than potty when out on walks. She will need to have access to a yard a few times a day. She enjoys being outside either sitting in the shade or rolling on her back.
Her foster family does not know if Flossie has been crate-trained or not. A crate was not used prior to or after the birth of her puppies. She has access to two dog beds (a large round pillow and a couch) and numerous blankets, but spends much of her indoor time on the floor – since it is summer, maybe it is cooler for her. She does have access to the family couch, but seldom uses it.
Flossie has been an absolute wonderful addition to her foster family. She is more than deserving of a forever home that will provide love and companionship to her each and every day.
Her ideal family is as follows:
-Has had Herding breed experience
–Active family who goes on regular jogging and hiking adventures
-No pesky neighbor dogs who like to bark through the fence; that gets Flossie agitated.
-No cats
