Medium (25 – 60 lbs) Learn MoreI’m Iris, a 55-pound Border Collie mix (possibly pit bull)) around 1-2 years old and I’d love to see if we are a match. Read my bio below and let me know!
First off, I want all the love and cuddles and will crawl into your lap for pets or for long naps in front of the TV. I’m crate trained and housebroken, and know basic commands like sit and lay down. After I quietly sleep in until 8 or 9AM, I prefer to spend my mornings napping in various places around the house while my humans work. When we go into the backyard, I especially love sleeping in the sun outside, playing with you, and roaming the perimeter.
With all that said, as a Border Collie mix, I have a lot of playful energy, and love to run and play fetch! I can be reactive on leash to other dogs and animals and will pull hard to try to go after them (though I am learning to be distracted with treats). I am also very athletic and unsuccessfully try to scale trees and fences in pursuit of my nemesis, the squirrel. I’ll need help learning to ignore other animals on walks and in nearby yards.
I’m best suited in a house with space, high fence (5 feet+), older kids, and no cats.
I haven’t socialized with many other dogs given the current situation, but did come from another shelter who stated I did fine with other dogs.
I’m making great progress on my training with my foster family and will be an ideal buddy with a little patience and attention.
Biographer’s notes: Iris needs a family that can help work with her on her leash reactivity and work on her being slightly wary of strangers. She has typical Border Collie traits and has exhibited nipping behaviors towards folks coming into the home. With time and guidance, she is able to welcome new folks into the home but will need continued training to help curb that behavior. Iris would ideally go into a home with an active family and another confident resident dog to help mentor her.
If you think you have the patience and time to do the necessary training to help Iris become the best dog she can be, then please submit an application explaining why your family would be the best for her! (BS)
