Ishmael aka Ishy is a big (63 pounds), gorgeous boy! A little over a year old, he is sweet, gentle, and somewhat mellow for an adolescent shepherd. Because he was picked up as a stray, we do not know what his life was like as a puppy. What we do know is that he is a gigantic puppy- incredibly smart, dog friendly, and eager to please. Ishy will need training and patience similar to a young puppy, except it is very likely that he will learn much more quickly. Because he has been cooped up for some time, expect bouncy puppy energy. If you love herding breeds (and their need for exercise and mental stimulation), spending lots of time with your dog, and are willing to commit to the time it takes to teach him how to be a great dog, you will be rewarded with a lifetime of true companionship. We love him!
While quick to settle, Ishy alert barks at the sanctuary so it is very likely that he will continue to do so at his new home. We do not know how strong Ishy’s herding instincts are, and because he is so big and only a year old, no small children and cats unless you are a demonstrably experienced GSD home fully committed to his safety as he explores the world around him.
Ishy is a loving marshmallow and will make a most excellent companion! Apply here and a volunteer will be in touch.(SkS)
