If this dog were a man, he’d be a rugged, bearded Cajun who can fix your roof and charm your mom to death. Meet Koda, one of the most handsome goofballs we’ve ever met. He is a 95-pound, 2 year old, male Catahoula mix.
Koda loves every human he meets. His fosters are his biggest fans and say the best thing about Koda is, “It’s really obvious that his heart’s greatest wish is to be your best buddy.” He works hard to earn your affection and wants to be around his humans as much as possible. Belly rubs are his kryptonite.
Playful by nature, Koda loves fetch, learning new tricks and sniffing out hidden toys. He’s an awesome hiking pal and loves exploring the outdoors. Koda is a jock and can keep up with the most ambitious of adventurers on or off trail. Though powerful and athletically gifted, his sloppy, bounding jog is hilarious. He’ll be happiest in a home where he can get a lot of exercise.
Like many herding breeds, Koda used to use mouthing to let you know when he wanted something — food, play, and especially when he needed to go out to potty. His fosters have largely eliminated this behavior and we don’t foresee it being a problem with ongoing reinforcement, but in the short-term, he should be in a home with adults and, possibly, older children (12+).
Koda is a country boy, found as a stray wandering in Sonoma County. As much as he adores people, Koda does not love most dogs he meets. He has little to no social skills with dogs and is reactive to other dogs both on and off leash. He will do best in a home where he is the only pet, ideally one in the country or with a yard.
While Koda is still pretty unrefined when other dogs are around, he’s shaping up to be a real gentleman in the house. He greets visitors with affection and manners, eager to show off his hand shaking skills. He’s house trained. Rewarded by both affection and treats, Koda just generally wants to please, so training is easy.
Sometimes when you’re reading or watching tv, Koda will lean into you and sit there looking deeply into your eyes. It melts your heart. Curious if Koda is the one for you? Fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you. (MM)
