Adopted

Missy’s been in a foster home with Rocket Dog for several months now, but we don’t want anyone to think there’s something wrong with her because she hasn’t been adopted. It’s just not true! Missy has a few quirks, but we know her perfect family is out there. We just have to find them! She’s a middle-aged lady set in her ways, and honestly, same, Missy.

A huge upside to Missy being in foster for several months is we’ve learned a lot about her. Missy’s biggest challenge: first impressions. She doesn’t like ‘em! Missy LOVES her foster mom and is very affectionate and funny, but she can be quite stand-offish and worried in new situations and with new people. It’s hard not to take it personally when a dog doesn’t warm up right away, and we think Missy will take a couple of weeks to become pals with her new person. As far as she is concerned, she already has a person and doesn’t need any more. We know she’s capable, though, if her affection for her foster mom is any indication. She has been through a lot of changes in her life, but when she feels confident she is a real character, asking for physical affection and giving kisses. There is a charming, loving sweetie in there! She’s even got a fan club at the local cafe who enjoy her daily visits. Dog-savvy children over 12 who understand her boundaries might be fine.

What we know about Missy’s past: Missy was found by a good Samaritan as a stray in the Central Valley, and we believe she had a family for a long time. We think she is 8 or 9 years old and she’s even had her DNA done! Missy may resemble a furry little potato, but her mix is Chihuahua/Pomeranian/Min Pin/Rat Terrier! The Pomeranian makes a lot of sense because she has very soft fur.

She won’t be competing in any agility competitions, but Missy enjoys a short walk and gets very excited when her harness comes out. She is fine greeting other polite dogs on the street and has not shown any reactivity, but Missy would prefer human strangers not pet her. In her foster home Missy cohabitates with a female senior Chihuahua and is submissive to her. In fact, we think Missy might really like another low-key, confident dog friend in her forever home. (She would be fine as an only dog, as well.) She is pee pad trained and has made great improvements with her housetraining, but we have found she does best when she has access to a secure outdoor space (even a small one like a patio). She’s been on a couple of road trips and did quite well and has not shown separation anxiety when left at home.

Talents: Pet steps, snoring, sit, polite treat taking, adorable chubby spotty belly, darling sleeping tongue blep

Likes: naps, furry donut beds, blankets, jerky treats, cuddling, dental chews, pats and pets

Dislikes: crating, going a new way on a walk, strangers
