Medium (25 – 60 lbs) Learn MoreNala is an 18 month-old petite female German Shepherd, who weighs about 55 pounds. Isn’t she gorgeous?
Nala is an affectionate, athletic dog. Although she is small in stature she can easily jump into the back of a pickup truck. She enjoys playing with all types of toys and will entertain herself with a ball or a squeaky toy. She understands some basic commands and will sit and down for a treat. She has a soft mouth when taking treats. She also LOVES water! So much that she pounces into her water bowl and loves splashing around. That being said, if you’re looking for a water dog, this may be it! Most likely, she’d be great for those hikes around the lake and river and even go about in your boat on the weekends.
Nala will benefit from a refresher course in obedience. She enjoys going on leash walks and doesn’t pull when corrected and needs more training to walk on heel. She likes going for car rides and is generally quiet in her crate, and does not get sick when traveling over mountain roads.
Nala is quickly settling into her new foster home. We are working on basic house manners, staying off the furniture, house training and crate training. In her foster home she is living with 2 adult male German Shepherds and is doing okay with them. She has some puppy mannerisms that are annoying to the big dogs and they are teaching her proper doggie manners.
In general Nala likes other dogs and thus far has met new dogs with a slight wag of her tail. She can go to a home with another dog as long as its tolerant of puppy antics.
When she was young Nala did not get enough practice in meeting strangers. She is wary when meeting a new person. However, when given time for a slow introduction she becomes interested in the new person and gets over her fear. Her new family will need to make time to ensure that Nala gets more experience out in the world so that she is more confident when meeting new people. Her new person needs to be experienced and or absolutely available to teach her about meeting people appropriately. This will be a long term training skill that will require patience and time.
Nala is looking for a loving home with a person or family who has experience with dogs, ideally with Shepherd type dogs. She would be happy sharing her home with another dog or could go to a home as an only dog if her people were home more than they are gone.
If you are aware of the Shepherd type personalities and characteristics and can share those points in your application, the sooner we can get back to you! Please be committed to training yourself and her in order to thrive as a lifelong team.
