Odie is a smart, fun-loving, hard-working and affectionate 3 year old German Pinscher. He is well-
mannered in the house, crate-trained and house trained. Odie has been with me for
about 2 months as my foster dog while his foster mom attended the Michael Ellis School for Dog
Trainers, so he has gone through anintense course of obedience training and
motivation-building during his time with me. This boy has come through it all with flying
colors. He loves to play and quickly learned the rules of good retrieving and tugging: he
returns with a thrown toy and delivers it to your hand, re-engages if you give him the toy
and outs it on command. He has developed a lot of impulse control and is able to hold
himself until released to take the toy again.
He is one of those rare dogs who is happy to work for food or toy rewards. Not only has he got a good foundation in the basic behaviors like sit, down, stand and stay, he is well on his way to advanced behaviors
like focused heeling, formal hurdle jumping, formal retrieving and retrieving over a jump.
He has even done nose work and scent discrimination (retrieving an object that smells
like the handler from among a set of the same items). Odie loves to swim and will
readily retrieve in the water, plus he can run like the wind. He could be an agility, rally,
nose work or barn hunt dog – he could even learn circus tricks. He has a great work
ethic and would soak up anything you choose to teach him.
Odie is a bit sensitive to the environment in new situations but is super resilient and
quickly gets over his hesitations. He lived with dogs in both his original
and foster homes and gets along well. I have worked on his greeting behavior with both
people and dogs since he gets excited and a bit barky, but is friendly with both. He loves the water and going swimming.
