Hello there! My name is Oliver and I am a 15 month old Silver Labrador who’s 85 lbs of love, muscle and “a lot of dog.”
If I could be best described in 3 words, they would be: active, stubborn and loving.
I will give you “Lab Love” like no other. At home, I will follow you from room to room with my adorable droopy puppy-eyes. But, please don’t give in around food. I have a sensitive GI tract and require no chicken, no beef diet, but I do fine with duck, lamb and fish. I’ll look at your plate and take it if it’s unattended, but if you tell me “no”, I back off easily. I also don’t chew things that aren’t mine – yay me!
Another thing about me, I LOVE my people! I’ll stick to my person pretty regularly, but I love kids too! If I’m familiar with them, I pretty much let them do what they want to me.
I’m a big & fit guy/ “a lotta dog” and it will be extremely important that you can provide me with PLENTY of exercise (I love sprinting for balls) within secure boundaries. Do you have tall fences?! Do you have an easy going playmate for me so I have that familiarity when you leave? I would love to learn doggie manners from another resident and submissive dog who’s okay with a more “alpha” dog like me.
While I’m a trusted Lab 90% of the time, I must tell you about the attention required for my personality. I am on high alert outside of the home and with new people & dogs. I get very nervous and need my owner to reassure me as I begin to get comfortable with when and how to behave. If I behave badly, I need you to tell me so I know it’s unacceptable and that I should look to you for reassurance or permission. I can get “spooked” randomly. I love people, but not when they loiter or approach me head-on. Did I mention that I’m also big and strong? I’ve been to 3 weeks of professional training to address some of my issues and am doing much better, however, I still have my moments! At the end of the day, I just want to love and please you!
I love to play! I go to doggie daycare 3 days a week. While I socialize well in that environment, I do like to play hard and can pick up competitive vibes from other dogs in unfamiliar places. I don’t think I do well when I have to make my own choices… I do very well taking walks with friends… if they can keep up! I also love car rides -please take me with you! I really love squirrels and other prey, but don’t bother with them if they are far away.
I sit and sometimes stay, but need to learn better recall and “leave-it” in the high stress times. I can even sit pretty on my hind legs for a treat!!!
I am housebroken, but may have an accident or 2 in a new environment, so please be patient with me while I learn the new ropes of my next family. I am also “okay” being left for short period of times in a secured location. I am familiar with crates; however, I prefer being in a larger more secured area when my parents have to go on errands or short periods in between my walks.
Last but not least, I am looking for a family who can deal with my leash reactivity. The outside world makes me a bit nervous and I start pulling towards other dogs and that can be a bit much for people who are not comfortable putting me back in my place. Are you the person who is willing to guide me so I can be the most well behaved dog I can be?
I was born on 11/7/2018 and I am fully vetted.
So, if you’ve read all these details and you are at least some of the following:
- dog savvy
- can set boundaries + structure
- comfortable training and handling 85 lbs of an active dog
- working on my leash reactivity
- can run with me almost every day
- a nice to have would be another mellow dog to keep me company while you are away and is okay with me being the bigger and potentially in charge dog
