After arriving in Noe Valley from a rescue group in Mexico in early May, a couple days after their first vaccine, they developed a rough bout of kennel cough and were ill with the rare distemper virus. They battled through it and recovered well, with the help of their amazing foster family.
Porsche is 5 months, and weighs 30lbs; she will probably be 60+ at maturity. She is a snuggle bug through and through. She wants to be pet, will walk over and sleep on your feet, and prefers to be cuddled alongside of you with maximal surface area against you. She was also ill in early May and developed some of the negative neurological effects from distemper which has presented as a rear leg constant twitch. She’s had this for over a month and it is stable but constant. Due to the twitch, she cannot use her rear right leg for load bearing, so she is like a cutie love tripod. She will be a fantastic partner for someone with a small apartment or mobility challenges as she prefers to snuggle and sleep. She can get around short distances but then sits or lays down to stay off her leg. She is incredibly intelligent and finds ways to communicate. When she’s hungry she will pick up her food bowl and walk it over to place at your feet. She loves to climb on top of her snoozing brother and fall asleep. “She is the most affectionate dog I’ve ever encountered!”, her foster mom enthuses. Her favorite activity is to nap in your lap while you read your book.
Her “handicap” should not be an issue as she gets older, other than she will not be taking long walks. Porsche’s adopter will have to be mindful of overfeeding her (please get advice from a veterinarian) because she will have the propensity to gain weight due to her lack of mobility. Extra weight will affect her other limbs and hips in the future.
*Rocket Dog Rescue recommends against adopting littermates, so Hudson and Porsche will be adopted to separate homes. Puppies need to have all the love and attention to themselves so they can bond successfully with their humans.
Please, if you can’t be home every 2-3 hours, we would ask that you consider adopting an older dog. Puppies need consistency, training, and lots of exerciser to be the best adult they can be.
