“Princess” was turned into the Ukiah shelter by a woman whose elderly mother could not properly care for her anymore. Worse than that the mother had dementia, and would lash out at her dog regularly thinking that a dangerous stray had entered the home. The injuries to Princess were minor, but it was only a matter of time before something tragic would become of it.
At ten years old, a kennel at the shelter was no place for a princess such as her. So she went into a foster home, and adjusted beautifully to life with other dogs and a sense of safety. She was morbidly obese (the owner kept forgetting that she had been fed and so was given several meals a day) but has trimmed down nicely and become fairly active. The lasting legacy of her sad situation are two lesions on her forearms that she was picking at to calm her anxiety, but have been slow to heal.
She is small/medium, around 32 pounds. VERY housebroken!
Somewhere within our community there is a place for Princess…if you think this is your home and would like to meet her, please fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you. (JE/TH)
