Starla, a three year-old Border Collie/Lab mix came to us a very shy and shut down pup and she has blossomed into the happiest, sweetest dog in her foster home. Starla can still be a little reserved with new people but quickly warms up. She loves to snuggle, play with toys, and she even knows a bunch of commands and tricks like sit, stay, and shake hands. She’s super eager to please, and learns new things amazingly quickly.
Starla is a very smart and energetic pup who is looking for an active family who can keep up with her mental and physical exercise needs. She currently goes on two-hour-long walks, one in the morning and one in the evening, as well as some shorter walks/potty breaks throughout the day. She seems happy with this level of exercise, but her former foster thinks she could probably do even more. She has no problem keeping up on long hikes, and would also make a great running partner. Starla is house trained, doesn’t have separation anxiety, has never been destructive in her former foster’s home, and is overall a super well-mannered polite girl.
Starla could I’ve in a home with another dog but they would need to be respectful of her space. Like many herding dogs, she can get a little nippy at other dogs if they are bothering her or if they move too fast and her herding instinct kicks in. Starla has made several dog friends, but she does need a proper introduction. She has no problem walking by other dogs on leash, but she is not a good candidate for dog parks or other places with lots of dogs off leashing and running up to her.
Starla is the type of dog who will intensely bond to one or maybe two people so she is looking for a home where at least one person is home the majority of the day. Her new family should be very active and committed to giving her at least 2-3 hours of exercise a day. Starla also needs a home without small children or cats as she tends to want to chase/ herd small fast-moving things.
If you are an experienced herding breed potential adopter, with no small animals, older dog-savvy kids, and active, please apply here to meet her. (LH)
