Tilly is ready to brave the world with you! This sweet, 2 year-old chihuahua was very fearful when she first entered the shelter environment – who could blame her? Though cautious at first, she’d love to jump in your lap and get all the attention in the world.
Tilly’s foster says, “Tilly is still figuring out how to be a dog, and she’s getting close. You can see the sweet girl just under the fearful surface. She really just wants affection, but first she needs to build trust and confidence. And that will take time and dedication.
“When we first fostered her, she was a tight ball of tension. She’d freeze when approached and defend herself by nipping or screaming. Genuine fear. Who knows what she might have gone through? But over time, she sought out our laps, befriended our other dog, learned to play, and even learn a couple of basic tricks (she loves her treats), We can pet her, pick her up, bathe her, and even cut her nails. She’s still a bit on edge, but so much better. And with more work, we feel she could rehabilitate completely. You know, “be a dog.”
“We have two small children (5 and 3) so started cautiously, but we quickly saw that she was surprisingly tolerant with them. Our daughter gives her big hugs, wants to pet her constantly, and is often swinging toys around in her face, and she’s pretty unreactive to all that. She seems completely fine around other dogs, including some bigger dogs our friends brought over. She needs a guide, a friend, who can help her become who she really is.”
