Dallas is a total hunk of a shepherd mix who will make a lucky family incredibly happy! He is very petite and is full grown at about 50 pounds. He was found as a stray in Sacramento and has been with his foster for the past 8 months working on his training and building his confidence.
He has a solid start to his obedience and knows : sit, down, stand, drop it, wait, heel, and recalls well. He is very food motivated, loves toys and balls, and always checks in to his person. He is crate trained and can be crated for up to 8-hours (although he prefers to be with his people more!). He has been living in a small one bedroom apartment, and will go to his bed and chew a kong or bone happily at night while you watch a movie.
Dallas has been on group walks with a dog walker and has done well. He absolutely loves dog parks and can play happily in small fenced in parks, hiking trails, or large unfenced areas. He plays well with dogs of all sizes, and while he plays with too much exuberance sometimes, he will usually listen to dogs signals to back off.
Dallas is very sensitive and shy and takes a bit of time to warm up to new people. Once he realizes that you are safe, he bonds closely and will be your friend and protector for life. He has been fine with children approaching him in public.
The ideal home for Dallas is one where he is given a lot of attention, love and exercise. He would be thrilled to go to dog parks and trips to cafés to lay down with his people and occasionally get to sniff dogs while they walk by. He loves bones and toys and can entertain himself for hours while you sit on the couch. He has lived with dogs in his foster home, but would love to either have all the attention to himself, or a mellow, adult dog who will reinforce being calm in the house. Because he’s so shy at first, older children who will respect giving him space at first would be best. Please email adopts rockedogrescue.org to meet him!
