Medium (25 – 60 lbs) Learn MoreHarper is a lovely, sweet and gentle dog. Though she can be shy when first meeting people, she warms up quickly and loves to be around them. She’s a serious dog but super playful when comfortable (like all the time in the house!) and very affectionate. She loves other dogs and since coming to her foster home, has been going to Bulldog Baths doggy daycare twice a week. She also passed her cat test at the shelter before she came to Rocket Dog. She is a joy to be around. When she runs up to greet you and nuzzle your face when you come home, any weariness from your day melts away.
Harper is happy to spend most of the day curled up on her dog bed sleeping (ideally with her humans around), though when she wakes up, she’s ready to play in the yard, go on a walk, or play tug or throw her stuffed animals around. She would likely make a good running and hiking partner. She is crate trained and house trained.
Harper is smart and an eager learner. She is clicker trained and has been going to classes at Pawsitive Tails. She knows sit, down, come, stay in both sit and down position and is getting good at loose leash walking. The sky’s the limit in terms of what she can learn!
Harper is sensitive to new environments and sounds and is still adjusting to living in the city. However, she is very curious and engaged with her environment and learning quickly to be comfortable with the unfamiliar. She loves to ride in the car with her head out the window taking in the smells and it is amazing to watch her sniffing along the sidewalk as she learns the contours of the neighborhood. She has made progress much faster than we would have expected in the first two weeks she has been in foster and her confidence grows every day. Harper would be best served to live in a home that has a yard or other enclosed outdoor space as she loves hanging out and playing outside.
She will need continued confidence building in her new home and for new dog parents and those who do not have much training experience, continuing her in classes is recommended to help build her confidence, continue her training and build the dog parent/dog bond.
