Name: Jericho
gender: male
Border Collie Mix, Approx 1-2 years old, 45-50 lbs.
Jericho is an adorable catch! He loves to cuddle and get face rubs, and craves attention. He is so motivated by a pet and a head rub that you can use it as a training-treat!
Not a lot is known about Jericho’s past, but he was scheduled to be put down when Rocket Dog rescued him. He’s recently neutered, up to date on vaccines, and is living in a foster home with one other dog (a 5 yr old male husky).
While he doesn’t get along with all dogs, with proper introduction to calm dogs he gets along fine! He loves to play and run around with his foster brother, even wrestle and chase. He’s very happy scouting for squirrels and birds in the back yard. He hasn’t been found digging, but he does like to chew on cloth (so hide your slippers!)
He hasn’t had a lot of training, but he learns fast and would be a great agility dog. In fact, this dog would do best with someone who has time to work on training and commands with him. His whole face lights up when he gets to learn something new.
His foster family takes him for walks and hikes and he does really well. At home, he doesn’t chase balls… but he is the funniest dog when you bring out the hose! He’ll chase the water stream, and you can even make him run in circles until he’s tired out!
He has a strong herding instinct, so he’ll stay by your side.
This dog would do best in a home with one other dog, or with someone who has lots of space and time! With the right trainer, he can be an amazing companion. Unfortunately, he isn’t always at his best when he sees other dogs. He gets so very excited that he quickly loses his cool, but with time, training and love this can be changed. He just can’t seem to handle the anxiety of meeting new friends!
The dog park isn’t his favorite place, but he loves to take nature hikes with you or go on walks. He’s a very people-oriented dog.
Before he came to his foster home, he didn’t seem to know much of anything, but he’s already housebroken, knows sit, down, stay and come, and doesn’t bite your hands. He even walks well on leash (but forgets his manners when there’s too many exciting dogs around!)
He hasn’t been cat tested, but he seems fine with adults, kids, and dogs that are sharing the house with him (that he considers ‘his pack’). He is not crate trained, but he’ll go to his bed when asked.
Please only apply to adopt if you have experience with dogs and are willing to work on training him. This is not a good “first time dog”.
