Large (60 – 100 lbs) Learn MoreThis stunning boy with the expressive eyes is named Dutch. At 93 pounds this lab/shepherd mix is a bit of a gentle giant who doesn’t know his own size. He’s as sweet and loving as they come, but he’s also a high energy dog, ready to play at a moment’s notice. At 18 months old, he’s coming out of his puppyhood, but still very much a puppy in many ways. That means, he will need lots of continued training and exercise in his new home.
Are you looking for an active dog to join you on adventures? Look no further! Dutch lives to ride in the car, he’s beyond thrilled to get to the beach and he really loves to swim! He’s very friendly and curious with other dogs that he meets.
Here’s the cool part…He’s not only an adventurer, he’s a family guy too! He’s spent his whole life this far with kids and really loves them! Though, because of his size, kids at home should be over 5 years old.
So really, let’s be honest…haven’t we checked off all the boxes yet?
Okay a few more details:
Dutch is housebroken and has pretty good house manners, but he can be a counter surfer, so be careful not to leave food unattended! He’s been taught not to jump up on people and is mostly past his puppy chewing stage (he might chew the occasional shoe, it’s true). He is not a barker, though he will appropriately alarm bark to tell you someone is coming on to your property. He is crate trained and used to sleeping in a crate at night, though we’re pretty sure he’d be happy to graduate to a dog bed at some point.. He’s extremely affectionate and loves all the attention you can give him. Even though he loves being in the water, he’s not fond of baths and brushing, but he tolerates both. Dutch really wants someone to be home with him most of the time, or someone who can take him to work. He might even want to be a companion to an existing dog in the home. He does fine with other dogs, though he gets very excited and wants to play, some dogs may find his enthusiasm off-putting but his intentions are all good. He will pull on the leash but walks quite well with a Halti head collar. He knows sit, stay, down and is working on fetch.
So you’re looking for the fine print now, right? Some reason why this adorable boy might not right for you? Well..
He is unknown with cats and most likely would chase them.
He is very frightened of thunder and lightning and may hide.
Because of his size and zest for life, children in the home should be over 5 years old…HE IS A BIG, HIGH ENERGY DOG who doesn’t know his own size and might just knock little ones over by accident.
Continued training and lots of exercise and activity will be an absolute must for a successful life with Dutch.
