Otis is a big 2-3 year old hunk of love. He would make for a perfect family dog – he’s calm and sleepy when you’re doing work; he sits next to you or at your feet when you’re watching TV; and he puts his head on your lap when you’re just hanging out. He’s very gentle with strangers, curious and non-aggressive with dogs of all shapes / genders / sizes, and totally unfazed by strange objects or noises. Even when other insecure (hah!) dogs bark at him, he just stands there unmoved, and waits for them to understand he’s their friend before moving in for a second sniff.
He’s a walk-at-your-own-pace kind of guy, preferring to fully smell each and every rose on every block, but I’ve also taken him hiking a couple times through the Golden Gate / Presidio Park, and he’ll happily lead you if you hold him on a straight path. He absolutely loves the sun and the grass. He’s a gentle walker with a prong collar, and is quickly becoming a gentle walker with a standard collar. Key reinforcements for his forever family will be “becoming a tree” when he pulls (he figures it out quick), and keeping him on a short leash when going up and down stairs so he stays at your side.
He’s easily housebroken with praise and treats for going outside. He loves his toys and can occupy himself for hours while you’re away with a couple stuffed Kongs, squeaky toys, and/or a bone. I left him for a whole work day in an XL crate and watched him on my nanny cam, and he was happily self-occupied until I got home.
He isn’t a picky eater (but he loves eggs and peanut butter), eats at his own pace, and has no food aggression. He loves to gentle climb up and hug his parents and siblings and, if bothersome, could be trained to respect space more. He’s a bigger boy, so probably best in a teenager and adult household, where his gentle strength doesn’t nudge anyone too hard.
Otis is eager to please, non-aggressive, and very responsive to any and all training. Highly recommend for any family looking for a friendly and loving companion that is happy to go with the flow!
