Meet Perron (5 years old), who is excited to tell you all about himself. (And he has lots to tell!)
I have been with my foster dad (FD) for over 3 weeks now, and my FD is amazed at how far I have come. I was a very fearful dog (because I wasn’t used to human attention) but have come out of my shell.
I’m quickly learning basic commands, like COME (also the hand action, without the enunciation), SIT (finger snap, without enunciation), NO and WAIT. Turns out I was a bit scared of doors and steps, but I successfully overcame that fear and now love to go on walks. On walks, I am pretty much unshaken at the sight of other cats and dogs (and I had my own friends when I was rescued) so my FD thinks I should do pretty well with other dogs in the household. I am potty trained to go outdoors and am learning to walk on leash with success. Given the changes in my environment, I have developed separation anxiety, but I have been working tirelessly with my FD to overcome that. From barking/scratching/digging the moment I was alone, to staying put for almost upwards of 90minutes in silence, I have come a long way.
I definitely need a household who will continue to help me in my journey. I am not extremely treat-motivated (I love treats but that won’t help me much in situations where I am scared) but I am tremendously motivated by petting (that’s how I learned all my training!) and will allow you to pet me 24/7.
I have recently developed a tremendous liking to plush squeaky toys and will play fetch til I get all my “zoomies” out. I am definitely cautious around strangers but give me some treats and time, and you will have the opportunity to pet me. My FD says I have not yet shown any tendencies of resource guarding in terms of food or toys. I would prefer a moderately active household where I can have someone to play with…either humans or another dog. I am looking for my forever home that will give me the space to open up and have the patience to let me show you how much love I have to share!
I’d love to meet you if you think we’d be a good match; please fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you. (PB/DA
