Update: Hot Dog, Cracker Jack and Soda Pop need homes. All others have been adopted. Please meet The Candy Litter! As their name suggests, they are sweet as can be. They were abandoned in Oakland without any mom in sight and Rocket Dog Rescue came to their aid to find them wonderful, loving (separate) homes. They have been thriving in their foster home and have been socialized with other dogs, cats and children in the home. Happy as can be and learning lots from their own siblings and family happenings! We are guessing that they will be between 10-15 lbs as adults. They look to be a Chihuahua/Pug/Dachshund/Terrier mix of sorts. Whatever they are, they are darling! In the next few weeks they will be spayed and neutered. Once this is complete, they can move to their forever homes. (They will be 9 weeks old.) We know puppies are super-cute, but they are a lot of work and are a lifelong commitment. Please read the following carefully:
Training your puppy: When it comes to any puppy, think about what the dog is being encouraged to do now and ask yourself if this will be wanted behavior when the puppy is bigger and stronger. So while it may be adorable when a tiny puppy jumps up on people for attention, climbs up onto the couch and gnaws on people’s hands, that behavior isn’t so cute when the puppy is adult size, with adult teeth. Plan to take basic training classes with your new dog. A class builds the skills for the dog and creates lasting bonds with his or her new family.
Socializing: Have puppies meet as many nice people and other animals as possible to learn and keep great social skills. Protect them from bad experiences. Fear causes many dogs to become defensive, and defensive behavior is seen as aggression.
Finally, are you ready for a full time job with one of us? Are you committed to cleaning, training and socializing us for the rest of our lives? If you are ready for puppyhood (being home every 2-3 hours), we would love to meet you.
