During the worst day of the October fires in Mendocino County, two large dogs were seen running down a road together, away from a hill that was in flames. An ambulance stopped and picked them up, and brought them to the Ukiah shelter where they were well cared for.
Both have been spayed, both have microchips. The contact information led to a dead end-a disconnected phone number–but their names and ages were recorded in the chip.
The older one, Ellie, is eight. She is a very stable, affectionate and easy going girl, that thrives on a kind word and loves her walks a couple of times a day. She was overweight when she went into foster care, but has dropped around 15 pounds in a few weeks time. Ellie is very Zen, very low maintenance, and great company.
Zoey is six, she’s leaner and more athletic (these girls are related…possibly mother/daughter) and also more of an extrovert. Both get along well with other dogs (although a little “bossy” at first, responding well to discouragement by a human monitor) and love people. Cats=unknown, but seem to have a low prey drive. Country dogs of this type are usually indifferent to other pets and livestock; ranchers and farmers select those traits in dogs, so they need not bother about them worrying other species on the property.
They need not be adopted together! It would be nice, they are very compatible, but the main goal is to get them placed in good homes.
Ellie weighs in at about 95, Zoey tops scales at 82.
Both would make great family dogs, kids of any age that are dog savvy.
And both are abailable now, bags are packed already just in case! (JE)
Interested in either (or both!) of these gals? Please fill out an application and a volunteer will contact you. Thank you for adopting.
