My name was Zach but now it is Astaire. My folks noted that my markings resembled a tuxedo coat and pants so I was named after the dancer Fred Astaire. I don’t remember much about my previous life but I do know that I was in a shelter for a couple of weeks and then Kim Collier rescued me and I was at a boarding kennel for another few weeks. I didn’t mind it too much as there were other dogs there to keep me company. The people came and went and that was my life. Kim was an outreach of Rocket Dog Rescue in SF and that was how Ray and Jan came to know about me. Their dog of 10 years, Carl had died of cancer and they were very lonely for a canine friend.
Although they loved Carl and treasured him as a wonderful companion, he had some aggressive tendencies that made them hesitate to adopt another dog of our breed. They knew we were intelligent, loyal pets but worried about the tendency to aggression with other dogs. When Jan read my bio she was very interested. I actually like other dogs and Kim had noted this trait along with the fact that I only bark when absolutely necessary. I am pretty handsome too! It was decided that Ray and Jan would adopt me and we met for the first time in SF. We all liked each other from the start and every day I become more a part of the family. I have many things to learn and Ray and Jan say I am a smart boy who learns quickly. I am very happy to have a nice home and want to thank Rocket Dog Rescue for helping me find Ray and Jan.
