Dear Rocket Dog,
I met Huck at Stonestown on my way home from a vet visit for my cat, Nosey. I wasn’t looking for a dog. At the time, I was a week away from moving; and Nosey was regularly going to the vet for severe allergic reactions. I was at Pet Food Express to get new litter because that time his paws were reacting to the pine litter I’d bought. There was a woman holding a puppy from a litter that Pali had just rescued from the Madeira train tracks via the Fresno SPCA. The woman’s young son was squirming under one of Huck’s litter mates and she turned to me and said, “Can you take this for a minute?”
The puppy melted in my arms. I thought, no puppy is this calm, so I flipped him on his back and he looked up at me with this “I can see my feet!” face. I learned what Pali had done to get these guys, including paying for a surgery to heal a huge abscess that Huck had on his throat, and the fantastic work that Rocket Dog does. I didn’t get him that day because I wanted to make sure getting him wasn’t an irresponsible impulse, but I couldn’t get him out of my head. I adopted Huckleberry on Mother’s Day, and fell in love with him the first night when his ear kept flipping up and hitting my face while he was sleeping. As you can see his ears are ASTONISHINGLY cute J!!
Over the next few weeks I got to know him, but during that time I also learned that Nosey had Lymphoma that didn’t respond to any treatment. I lost Nosey in August which broke my heart and having Huck around kept my spirits up. I call him the Ambassador of Fun. He has a great sense of humor, and such a sweet and positive temperament. He’s a great snuggler, too. I really feel like Huck was sent to me at a time when I needed him, and I can’t imagine not having him around.
Thank you Pali and EVERYONE at Rocket Dog, you all changed my life. I’m so blessed you gave me the chance to be Huckleberry’s forever home.
Love,
Nara and Huck
