If you are looking to surrender or rehome a pet NOT previously adopted from Rocket Dog Rescue:
Rocket Dog Rescue focuses primarily on rescuing dogs from overcrowded shelters, and we are often unable to assist with direct owner surrenders. We understand that the decision to rehome a dog is not one that is made lightly. Unfortunately, we receive an overwhelming number of pet surrender requests, and we are rarely able to directly help. Many shelters and rescues are at or over capacity – we strongly encourage you to exhaust any options you have to keep your pet or rehome on your own before surrendering them.
If you are considering rehoming for financial, housing, or behavioral reasons, we have several resources we recommend that may be able to help you keep your pet. You can find a compilation of those resources here.
If you have decided for certain that you need to rehome your dog, we recommend creating posts on sites like Rehome by Adopt a Pet, Home to Home, Rescueme.org, Nextdoor, and Facebook rehoming groups like the Bay Area Rehome and Adopt group.
To submit a surrender request to Rocket Dog Rescue, please send us an email at rehoming@rocketdogrescue.org. This email should include as much information as possible about your pet, including medical history and photos. We are generally unable to take dogs unless we can find them a foster home, so if you are able to foster your dog until an adoptive or foster home can be found, please let us know in your initial email. Please note that sending us an email does not obligate Rocket Dog Rescue to accept your dog for rehoming. We do review every request, but unfortunately we do not have the capacity to assist in every case.
If you are looking to surrender or rehome a pet previously adopted from Rocket Dog Rescue:
Please send us an email at adopt@rocketdogrescue.org with your request and as much detail about the circumstances as possible. Please include all up-to-date medical history, photos of the pet, and any other relevant information. Please indicate whether or not you are able to foster your dog until a new adoptive or foster home can be found. If you are able to foster, please indicate if you have a cutoff date.
If you found a stray:
As a rescue, we are not permitted to accept stray animals. Stray animals must be registered at the animal services facility that serves the location where they were found.
