PERSONALITY
Overall, Moose is an easy going guy and the definition of a gentle giant. Moose can initially be rather shy with new people. However, with a little bit of patience from his humans, he quickly learns he is safe and his affectionate side come out. There isn’t a mean bone in this boy’s body! Even in fearful moments, Moose defaults to sweet and submissive. He corrects easily and is very eager to please.
WHERE DID MOOSE COME FROM?
Moose was found as a stray in central California. Neighbors say he roamed the streets for most of his life. Despite being on the streets for so long, Moose has adapted extremely well to life with his new foster family.
MANNERS
Moose is potty-trained and great on leash. He is not a barker, other than an occasional yip here and there when playing. Moose sleeps through the night outside of a crate without getting into mischief. When bored, Moose will occasionally chew items he shouldn’t but he corrects quickly and hasn’t proven to be overly destructive. Moose could benefit from recall training, as he tends to have selective hearing when off leash. He isn’t extremely food motivated and responds best to positive reinforcement. Moose doesn’t tend to get on furniture but will occasionally jump up on the bed for a morning snuggle. He’s still getting used to the car but seems to be more and more comfortable with each ride. Moose has not been cat tested so we can’t speak to his feelings on felines.
DOG INTERACTION
Moose LOVES other dogs. Big, small, he loves them all! Moose takes daily trips to the dog park and attends weekly doggy daycare and he thrives at both. He’s extremely non-reactive, even when dogs are fussy with him. Dog interaction has proven to be key to Moose’s sense of security. Having another dog around has helped Moose adjust and has taught him humans are safe. His demeanor is much more relaxed when he’s got a buddy at home with him. For these reasons, it is crucial that Moose’s new home has another dog in the house. Bonus points for a medium to large furry sibling that loves to wrestle!
HEALTH SUMMARY
Moose is current on shots and has received preventative flea treatment and dewormer. Moose had two recent check-ups and the vet indicated he is in good health.
MOOSE’S IDEAL HOME
Moose would do best in a home that is willing to let him adjust and settle in at his own pace. His ideal family would take him on daily walks and would seek out ways to give him extra dog interaction. Moose is looking for a home with a playful furry sibling that can show him the ropes. He would love a backyard and some space to explore. However, this is not a deal breaker for an active family that is willing to include him in their daily lives outside of the home. If there are children in the home, they should be dog savvy and over the age of 8.
