Large (60 – 100 lbs) Learn MoreRocket Dog got a call about a stray dog a few days after Christmas, who was limping with an injured leg. He was skinny, scared, dehydrated and weak. Who knows how long he was out there on his own? We don’t know how the injury occurred, but after visiting with our vet, the best option was amputation.
Rocko has recovered well in foster and he is now ready to find his forever home. He’s adjusted to having 3 legs and gets around splendidly at this point! He’s still a few pounds shy of healthy and can stand to gain a few more pounds, though it will be important to keep him at a healthy weight for his joints.
He is a friendly and affectionate dog with a goofy smile and zest for life. He’s pretty comfortable being inside a house with people and has been crate-trained with his foster family. He waits to go outside for potty and is a well-behaved dog in the house. He does well with other dogs (large & small). He has not been cat tested.
He has a few areas for improvements… leash walking seems to be new to him so he will need some practice on how to walk nicely on a leash. He’s very treat-motivated which will make training much easier. While Rocko is very comfortable around other dogs, he would prefer to eat his meals in private until he is more secure in a home. He is okay with people being near him at meal time, but feels the need to defend his bowl around other dogs. Hard to blame him, and it’s easy enough to manage!
Our best guess is that handsome Rocko is a Doberman/Shepherd mix and about five years old. He weighs 62 pounds.
